Hi all, heres the first few photos of my current project.
Its a Honda Benly 125T, also know as a CD125T.

It was manufactured in 1995 and imported to the UK in 1999. I purchased it as running but no MOT. When it first arrived sure enough it was running... but only on one cylinder, i couldnt believe it actually ran and sounded fairly smooth.

So I checked it had oil, plugs seemed to be sparking but they were so gunged up (it has been sitting for over a year) that I bought a couple more. Popped them in and suddenly the bike ran great, a little tweak of the idle speed and it ticks over smoothly at low revs.
suddenly acceleration (around the driveway) was vastly improved.... about twice as good, not supprisingly!

Next I did a full oil change, found a nut for the seat as it was missing one. Installed a new headlamp bulb 35w/35w and a couple of new bulbs in the rear indicators. Well thats as far as I have got for now apart from purchasing some new shoes for the rear which I havent installed yet.

The rear break was sticking a bit, it wasnt going 'off' after being put 'on' if that makes sense. I think the springs that pull the shoes away might be a little weak or perhaps all the mechanics needed a good clear and oil/grease. Either way, according to 20mph in my driveway all seems well now.

The bike has a 4 speed with OD (overdrive) gearbox that goes 1-2-3-4-OD-1 etc... so you can go around in a loop. Also the gearlever has a toe and heel / rocker design.

Would be really interested if anyone know about this bike, how similar is it to the early 80s UK version. So far the gearbox is the only think I know different?

NB: The box IS coming off... as soon as I manage to get the bolts off!

new pic added 31.05.09 - Cleaned a bit and box off, hopefully ready for MOT if I can get it booked in this week. (n.b choke still not doing anything, posting in workshop section)

Bike is awaiting its MOT, had a 'direct' 25 mile ride to the garage which went really well. The bike pulls nicely even in overdrive gear, its nippy up to about 55 then tops out at around 65mph. Has a massive amount of low end torque compared to the 2 stoke I've owned previously.

As I said, very different from the only other bike I've owned; a 2 stoke GP100! ouch that thing felt like it was going to rip itself apart 50mph-65mph, oh and that one felt like it only had torque between 7000-9000 rpm!

Lets see what the honda garage find faulty (a few things a fear).

Well, it's been about 10 years since my last post about this bike.

I still own it, although it's been garaged for 6 years! Pulled it out, fettled and it passed an MOT today (photo).

I'm not sure whether to keep it, I feel a little attached but I really don't need it.

Car, Campervan, Piaggio MP3 500 + Honda Benly CD125T. Too much? My wife would say so!

Nice to see it's still going, even if it doesn't get used so much

A few more photos taken yesterday evening (hosted on my Google Photos).

On the way back from the MOT it spluttered quite a bit, pulled an HT lead off whilst riding and there was little/no difference. One of the plugs was very oily/fouled. I removed both and gave them a good degrease and clean, popped them back in and off I went again. It tops the speedo out downhill quite easily.

Water ingressed into my seat the other day so I ordered some covering and fitted up a new cover. I've never done this before, and would very much like to re-produce a stiched cover from the patern of the old one.
If I find some time perhaps I'll do that in the winter. For the moment, this is a lot more comfortable!

PostPosted: 13:26 - 23 Aug 2019    Post subject: Compatibility with cd200 cd125 and non japanese imports Reply with quote

I just thought I'd post this up for future reference.

My bike fell over (kickstand on grass was a bad idea) and the clutch lever and switch assembly shattered despite being made of alloy.

I scoured the internet for the right part, my bike was manufactured in 1995 in Japan. I can confirm that the parts on the handlebar are almost identical to the UK CD200 CD125, essentially all those old 60s and 70s models. What my replacement part lacks is a clutch detection sensor. This is the component that stops the bike starting on electric ignition unless the clutch is held in (safety).
I'll just have to disable this feature.

You need any engine bits? Let me know. I'm close enough to deliver.

Hi thank you
I haven't started on the engine yet. It was running fine before I began to strip it. I've cleaned the car and plan to get new cables, plus lots more lol. Up to now I've stripped the tank down bare to explose some spider rusting, which I plan to keep and seal with beeswax. I've stripped numerous layers of paint from the wheels and spokes and repainted. Bought new tyres also. Just received the v5 eventually, next step is to strip the frame.
Where are you?

there may well be a probationary period thing that makes you wait until you've been a member for a certain amount of time and / or posted a minimum number of times

iirc it's to try to prevent spam / sock accounts
