Picture this I’m travelling down hill in one lane where coming up the hill is 2 lanes so you can over take slow lorries going up the hill but all cars are in the Left lane so I have a free road space and 200M visibility to pull past the car that wanting me to over take it since it kept slowing and pulling to the side and waving me past. So check the road 200 m visibilities nothing behind me. Mirror signal manoeuvre and as I pull out I’m along side the car on my side of the road and the idiot BMW man pulls out swerving towards me. So had no option but to go for the gap and I passed the car on my side the same time BMW passes the car and I’m in the middle of both with inches either side of the two way cars. Bit of a brown trouser moment there folks.

In Northamptonshire 99% of BWM drivers are tits.. They drive like rules don't apply to them.. They try to race you from the lights everytime and make me laugh really.

You need to try riding in London, 99% of all drivers drive like the rules dont apply to them.

I had something similar a few years back, riding down a two way single carriageway road and some t**t in a Vulva, going the other way, pulls out to overtake without looking. I avoided him on the two foot strip of tarmac between the carriageway and the storm drain to my left. Not. Impressed.

That was about the first time I ever thought about turning round and going after someone but the traffic was too heavy to do a u-turn.

Cheers

I dont think its just BMW drivers that act in this manner. For me it seems to be anyone who drives or indeed rides a vehicle they deem to be better or more powerful than those around them. Audi's and BMW's do seem to be the main culprits in this area although the porche cayenne drivers are catching up with them very quickly in the numtiness stakes. I'v never seen a badly driven Jag yet though.

Don't these type of road configurations usually have a solid double white line? Google maps link required for further discussion... Thinking

Quite often not, we refer to them as the 'chicken lane', there is a cracking one just round the corner from a biker cafe in Kent, near dartford (can't remember the cafe name now) on a long hill. In one direction the road is dual carriageway, in the other direction it is single but you can use the middle lane to overtake, absloutely mental bit of raod planning.

Cheers

Exactly. Cars like that attract the aggressive, image-conscious types who fall for marketing.

Always give them a wide berth and expect movement sans indicators.

In fact, have the rules changed on motorways?

I was always under the impression that indication (especially BEFORE moving in/out) wasn't just optional, but the M40 last week and the M6 yesterday would appear to suggest otherwise.

Haha I like 'chicken lane', theres one near box hill and I usually use it to overtake but one day I was thinking about an overtake and I looked ahead and there were no cars down the whole road, 2 sec later WHOOSH going at least 110 black sports car I shat my pants.

Btw dont indicate when overtaking, it can be very confusing and you havnt been taught to do it.

You wern't changing lanes (You went to opposite side of road?) so it is not generally worth indicating unless theres a specific person you need to tell youare pulling out (eg a motorbike behind you who looks like he wants to overtake too and is very agressive)

A good section of the A30 is like that too, I've had similar issues having to sandwich between cars when one decides to overtake and not look Laughing

The worst thing is when a car does this vs another car. Saw this happen a few months ago and they missed by inches. Always figure if they did meet I'm gonna get hit by the shrapnel Confused

We'll add VW Golfs & Passats to that list. Their is no reason to drive so agressivley. And then they moan because someone confronts them for driving acting like a cocky shit.

Unless, y'know, there's someone there who you haven't seen.

If I'm changing my position in the road, I'll indicate. I have no problem confusing other drivers - if they're confused, they might - just might - consider keeping their distance while they see what I'm going to do.

200m visibility? At 40mph that'll only take 11sec to cover.
So, even if it was a 30mph road, and you're doing the limit, another driver comes the other way at say, 50mph (as BMW 'always speed'), it's only going to take 5.59s to make contact.

How fast were you going? Cus I'll bet it was more than 30mph Wink

We have a lot of 'chicken lanes' this way. Most of them look clear but if theres something big coming the other way I wouldnt dare use it as there could be someone waiting behind it to get past.

I once heard them described at a bikesafe event as 'Nearside, offside, suicide' Shocked

Why did Mr BMW pull out? To overtake something in his nearside lane perhaps?

I was knocked off by a BMW X5 doing a U turn without looking - fortunately I was not going fast otherwise I would be dead - the guy said he was a bike rider so was upset - obviously not a good one otherwise he would have checked his mirror for filtering bikes.

Rules don't apply, it's part of the BMW contract you sign in the dealership, you do officially own the road and all other road users have to respect that!

Pah, don't you know anything?! Rolling Eyes Laughing

I was travelling at 30 or just below since the car in front kept slowing so accelerated to 45 while pull past.
The BMW was in a line of car on the far left with at least 5 cars in front of him and another 4 behind so even if he did try overtaking he would of only got past 1-2 cars before he ran out of road. He indicated after he had already pulled into the middle of the road by which time I was near next to the car I was over taking.

I ride a Transalp with hi-power headlight on and a hi-viz jacket and was already indicating so really he had no excuse for not seeing me.

Can’t get a pic of area since on the area view is hidden by trees

No, no excuse for him not seeing you BUT you are on his side of the road and he is going for a perfectly legal overtake. Not defending it but you've got to expect people to use the outside lane when there's a line of cars in the inside.

Correct. So, 200/17.88=11.18seconds, no?
So if you're doing 45, and he is you'll have 4.97seconds.
