Honda CG 170cc kits?

Hello, been looking for insurance quotes recently and prices on Zxr 400 seem abit out of my price range at the moment as soon as I pass my test. I looked at quotes for when I have 2 years no claims and the price it drops is massive, so I'm going to wait another 11 months to get the 2 years no claims and hopefully bit more experience on a 125.

It's a chinese bike but it's a Honda CG engine copy, geo of both engines are the same etc, so all parts from my engine will fit a Cg and vis versa.

Can you get 170cc or 210cc bore kits for a Honda Cg? I've had a quick look on ebay and Google and havent came across anything.

If you cant afford the 400 Why throw your money at a slow bike that will still be slow and increasingly more unreliable.

Ride it for what it is until you can upgrade to something better.

If you can't yet afford a 400 why not trade your CG in and get a full power stroker?

There are plenty of bargain RS125s, TZRs and NSRs to be had - just budget for a new piston and rings straightaway because they tend to get sold right at the point they're about to blow up.

The setup of a big bore kit will be a pain, it will only gain you 2 or 3 more bhp, and most importantly the insurance on a modified CG125 will be more than on a stock ZXR400. Most places will refuse to insure it.

You've had the worst idea since olaf the hairy bought twenty thousand viking helmets with the horns on the inside.

Buy an NSR125 and derestrict it, or buy something that is just as quick but cheaper to insure than a ZXR400. I believe the SV650N is NU group 9 and the ZXR400 is group 12. The SV is more powerful, larger, more comfortable, more practical, easier to get spares for, easier to work on etc etc etc. This argument has been made countless times so I won't carry on but there must be THOUSANDS of bikes which are cheaper to insure than a ZXR400 but much much quicker than a big bored CG125.

My MZ for example, makes 20bhp as standard. I've just bought an exhaust for £100 that should add 5 -10bhp, all on a bike that cost me £30 to insure and £270 (inc a years tax) to buy. It handles better than a CG, its more practical, and its better value.

Don't big bore the CG, you'll destroy its value as a learner bike and you'll just end up pouring money into a big black hole of nothingness.

To add to Marjay's list, get a quote on a ZZR600 as well, it's cheap to buy, run and insure, it's utterly reliable and it's a pretty decent all round bike to boot

20bhp, similar in nature too, and i know someone on another forum was selling a K reg for 300 pound not long ago, so cheap to buy.
