I wouldn't say that this could ever be repeated in nature.

Captivity does strange things to penguins. They probably gay bonded under extreme stress then natural instincts took over. Their instincts of 'must stay together' and 'must raise egg' was obviously a bit stronger than their 'this man on man penguin thing doesn't feel quite right' feelings.

Captivity does strange things to humans as well. Look at male flight attendants Try and find me a straight one.

Prolly never seen a lass ... they are waddling about with penguin hard ons ... thinking "WTF do I do with this thing??" ... now humans have a habit of sticking it in all sorts of strange places ... and they have been told what its for ...

There have actually been a surprising amount of instances of animal bender-ness in nature. Depends a lot on the male/female instincts of the particular species (nurturing father etc).
