Stripping and cleaning carbs

Is it neccesary to replace seals and 'o rings?' when you strip the carbs.
Haynes mentions something about this but wondered if anyone here (pro bike workshop people) bother?

I'd only replace them if they had failed and were leaking.

Well,

I recently rebuilt the carbs on the LC. It was a piece of piss and I know why people love these bikes so much. Its not just because they ride so well, but they are really easy to maintain.

Anyway, I didn't replace the float bowl gasket, and now its leaking. However the new gaskets that came in the kit are cardboard so I guess I'll put some Wellseal on the old rubber gaskets. I trust those more than I trust the card ones.

Its worth replacing EVERY gasket in a carb every few years as these are the kinds of bits that can leave you stranded on the hard shoulder of the M4 at 0300 if they go wrong.

Skimping on carbs is a false economy of the worst kind. I try and do it on any bike I buy. The little bits of synthetic rubber are immersed in horribly nasty corrosive benzine laden unleaded so get a hard time.
