Reverting back to IE7 on Vista

I installed IE8 some time ago, but about 3/10 times it will fail to open a web page, so I want to remove IE8 and re-install IE7 which worked fine. Problem 1: IE isn't listed in 'Programs and Features', so can't uninstall it. Problem 2: Can't find a download for IE7 for Vista on the Microsoft site.

I've tried to re-install IE8 from the Microsoft site but it says I'm using the current version Confused

SP2 should sort put the IE8 problems with Vista for those that still use IE.

The Answer

IE8 isn't a bad browser, i suggest when you find the link that gives you the answer (maybe try 3rd down first) that you try re-installing it after you remove it. My bias and selfish opinion is that IE7 needs to go the way of IE6 and die a sudden death. So it saddens me that you would go to any lengths to put IE7 back on your PC. Why not do what the cool kids do, get firefox or you know, any of those other browsers that i don't have to write render hacks for. Karma

To be honest, I've just downloaded Firefox. I've used it in the past and it wasn't really a good solution for me, but this must be a newer version which seems very useable.

Think I will try and install SP2 when I've got the time, but my colleague tried it (on an identical machine to mine) and it wouldn't install.

I know a lot of people diss IE, but for me it has been by far the best (tried Opera, FF, Avant, Chrome, Safari etc).

Think I'm going to see how I get on with the new FF for a few days, as at the moment it's looking promising.

Got to say I've been a fan of FF vs IE for a good few years now and apart from the odd it bombs out when you update to a new version for a few weeks(usually animated pages) then I'd revert back to IE for a time until the FF updated to fix the issues but I got to say after using the full (non beta) version of ie8 today..it's loads faster than IE used to be and about twice as fast as FF currently loading pages...and thats on my poxy half meg connection!

also tried and still have chrome etc which can be fair quick for basic browsing but I just keep that in case of any FF/IE issues

IE8 is loads better since SP2 (Vista) was released but I think I'll stick with firefox. IE8 was terrible before SP2. Confused

I've converted to IE8, just cause I can't be assed to have loads of browsers installed and the difference between them is negligable now.

Besides Firefox still looks gash on Vista/Win7.
