I picked up a project bike in January and filled in all the V5 stuff while I was there. Toddled off in the understanding that the guy would send the v5 off.

Its now June, after e-mail’s text messaged and only one response from the guy moaning that he'd had a tax reminder I've heard nothing.
Is there any way I can get a v5 in my name even if the old keeper is being a Muppet and lost the filled in v5 rather than sending it off?

What are my options? I'm looking to MOT and tax in the next few weeks but will need my v5!

If you have bought a vehicle without a V5C please fill in an ‘Application for a vehicle registration certificate’ (V62) and pay the appropriate fee. You can get this from:

www.direct.gov.uk/motoringforms;
• Post Office® branches; and
• DVLA local offices.

Send the form to us at DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DD.

If you have sold a vehicle and do not have the V5C, you, as the seller, will need to send a signed letter to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR, giving the vehicle’s registration number, the make and model of the vehicle, the date you sold or transferred the vehicle and the name and address of the new keeper. You cannot tell us about this change by phone or e-mail. The buyer must fill in a V62 and pay the appropriate fee as your letter will not produce a V5C to the new keeper.

Do you have the new keeper's supplement? If so, then head into a post office, pick up a V62 form, attach the green bit to it, and sent it off. (you don't have to pay anything in this case)

If you don't have it, I think you'll still need a V62 form, but you might have to pay £25 or something.

Or you can just give DVLA a call and ask them.

That's what I did when my slabby V5 got lost between the previous owner and the DVLA.

Spoke to DVLA and they were *shock* helpful and explained what I needed to do.

I even printed the V62 off t'net rather than have to go to the post office twice.

Costs you nowt if you have the green new keeper's slip (V5/2). Thumbs Up

I gave them a call about the same thing yesterday (after realizing I still don't have my V5 for the NSR that I bought at the end of last year..) and to my biggest surprise they were really helpfull.

Oh, to the OP: If you decide to get the form from a post office, you don't have to queue up, just go there and grab a copy of it!

Got mine back just last week this way. Green slip and a V62 - 4 weeks later and the full V5 is returned in my name.
