Argh... Fuggering Shutsticks... Sad

Fired up the VFR this morning and "Proceeded" to work, got there, went to park up and the sidestand felt loose. wouldn't take the weight of the bike so I had to (with a still dodgy right leg) rock the thing onto the centrestand.

A quick check highlighted a missing bolt, a loose second bolt and a sidestand practically falling off. Sad

As the whole shebang had come loose, the sidestand switch engaged and now won't let the bike get into gear. Not sure if the switch is borked now, a connection is loose somewhere or the switch simply isn't disengaging properly. Looking at the wires coming off the stand I have a bad feeling that the connector has popped at the loom end, which is all tucked away under the fairing.

The stand should be easy to sort out. Two new bolts and a splash of threadlock, but if the wiring has failed somewhere then it's a recovery job to get me home as I doubt it'll be fixable roadside (simple job but a pain to get to so chances are the mechanic will not try.).

I did hear a few off clunks yesterday when on a roundabout and I thought it was the stuff in the top box shifting around. Stopped to check but couldn't see any issues. Shame I hadn't checked the stand then as I wouldn't have lost the bolt.. Sad.

tried tightening up the remaining bolt and cable tie-ing the stand bracket in place to stop it falling off, but still can't get in gear without it cutting the engine. don't want to think what could've happened if it had failed when I was riding...

Ok, tried fixing the stand and that'll hold itself together, but the sidestand switch still seems to be killing it. We've tried bridging the wiring but still no joy. No voltage either flowing through the wires when the engine is running so thats probably a dodgy wire or popped connector somewhere behind the fairing. He's called for backup on this one Smile.

Any thoughts? Vfr 800 vtec, 53 plate.

Ta,

K.

Bless the RAC and their persistance..

Popped off the left fairing, traced the cabling and found a seperated connector block...

Popped down after an hour or so to see if they were getting anywhere and the Backup mechanic was riding the thing up and down the carpark. Smile

Job done.

better than the Green flag guys "oh, you have a dodgy connector. Best tow you to a garage..."

Or, "gearbox looks seized. Best get it stripped down." (when it was in fact a loose bolt from the footpeg hangar stuck under the selector...)
