Pretty sure the X-plodes do come in 5x7. £30 - £40.

Not bad speakers at all.

5x7 American Sony site though. Confused

I have a pair of Infinity Reference 5x7's and they are pretty good. Thumbs Up They are a few years old now so I have no idea what their current range has on offer. Mine were £100 or so

They are run from an amp at about 75Wrms each, with all the bottom end EQ'd out and run to a seperate sub.

I haven't heard anything good about Sony X-plop until this thread. As far as I have seen before they are normally run by 'Barry-boys' in their Nova's who don't understand the difference between PMPO and rms.

Sorry if I upset anyone by saying that!

I would look at online sites based in the UK and see what you can find.

Sony X-Plops are relatively cheap with average sound quality, hence the boy racers use them a lot. I can say they do handle volume well though, i had two 4" xplods and they were loud enough to be heard clearly over a 2-stroke at full chat with a helemt on.....

if you want quality over volume pull out the extra dosh for something more expensive....

Not if they don't fit in the hole in the door Very Happy

I used to use infinity 5x7's in my Ford KA, did the job quite nicely (although did run them off a seperate amplifier not off the head unit).

never been a fan of anything but round, but yes if you need bespoke ones fair enough.

but i bet you would have got better sound by making an mdf holder for a smaller round speaker.

components are the way forward

As above 'oval' speakers are nothing but a compromise and will never sound as good as the same quality round speakers.

You also don't need big speakers in the front as it ruins the sound stage.

It's only a car stereo who gives a f*ck what shape the speakers are. Laughing

Definitely infinity 6x9's for your rear parcel shelf and fusion fronts will cost you about 70quid-100, its only worth doing if you have a half decent head unit though! just check the wattage and RMS to see if it matches up throw in an amp if you want to be fancy, but only if you think you must have it

Im guessing as its 5x7's its for a ford?

mk6/mk7 fiesta's can fit 6x9's in the rear speaker bit as long as they're not too deep.
Old shape focus needs 5x7's unless you want to cut away at the metal mount, i'll give my mate a shout later and see what he has in his Thumbs Up

Waste of an amp putting it on 6x9's. Sad

exactly thats why i said if you fancy, if you think you must have it
i had a crappy peugeot 206 and just had front speakers and 6x9's running out the head unit and was really good and so cheap
and at the end of the day its only worth putting a good sound system in a good car or buy a car with a decent sound system in

hertz do some really good speakers. little pricey though.
infinity are also pretty good a little less pricey.

what kind of setup are you actually wanting to achieve?

over the summer i'm planning to get a semi-decent setup going in my fiesta when/if i get it back from the insurance.
i did have some crappy 6x9's in the back which did sound way better than stock speakers. also took the front ones out because they made it sound very tinny.
6x9 in the rear parcel shelf sound utter sh*t IMO. get some fibreglass and make a box for them gives them better depth. that being said if you just want something louder stick a new head unit in with any old £20-£30 speakers from halfords or some other crappy store. fusion speakers are quite good considering how cheap they are but their hi end stuff is shocking
