When braking the front disc hums - like when you run a wet finger around the rim of a wine glass - does this mean that the disc may be warped or is there another explanation please?

It's a Honda CBF600, 2006 ABS model.

Any help welcome - thanks.

If there is a constant hum then no, no warping.

As long as there is plenty of meat left on the pads, and the brakes are doing the job, then I wouldn't worry about it

Should not be too much of a problem - but is always worth checking what could save your life! Whip the pads out and see if there is any defects/wear Thumbs Up Karma

As above, is it is just when braking and constant don't worry.

If you want to stop it, you can smear copper grease on the back of the pads when you next change them. Absorbs the vibrations which make the noise.

try popping your caliper off and greasing all the slides etc, then with some copper grease smear a thin layer on the back of the pads (the side that touches the caliper not the disc) and the edges of the pad that touches the caliper(sliding surface)

You're not confusing this with the sound a floating brake disc makes naturally under braking are you?

I have no idea - only passed my test 31st March and previous experience was limited to a 1990 CG125 with drums all round . Smile

Thanks for all the replies thus far - at least I know there's nothing seriously amiss.
