My mate had this oil in a drum and hes got loads of it, so he said i can have an engine full for free so i went round and done an oil change as i was overdue.
So did it and went on a nice run, 200 miles or so and another 50 or so this morning, then i came home speaking to my mate on msn and mentioned that my clutch was acting a bit funny. I asked him what oil it was and he didnt know, so i presume its just shitty car stuff. Look and seemed really cheap tbh but never thought anything of it Rolling Eyes

So just ordered 4 litres of Castrol gps. I was at it quite hard in those 200 miles, ya reckon the shitty oil would have done any damage or anything adverse?
Moral: Dont use shite oil just because its free Laughing

Your probably going to be the best one to tell that, do the oil change and see how the bike feels Smile

theres a thread somwhere saying that the 400 kwaks doesn't like either fully or part synthetic oil as it make the clutches slip!

Sounds like thats what happening here!

It's probably the synthetic mixing with non-synthetic will be causing the problem.
You should stick with one or the other.
There's nothing wrong with using car oil in a bike, unless it's something very highly tuned.
Still should be the right grade though - but even that is not critical.

Only happens with the wrong spec oil, not the base. Kaw would hardly make one bike that acts up with full synth when all the rest of their bikes work just fine with it... Rolling Eyes

It could be the right grade & the wrong spec.. which may lead to clutch slip..

Probably was car oil.
My dl650 hates anything with car written on the bottle it makes the clutch slip like fuck. had to flush it twice last time i used car oil (made a post about it)

Only stuff shes happy with is Castrol Racing bike oil. Bike oil has a friction modifier added into it for wet cluches (whateva the feck that is)

Personally i just think my bike is a spoiled fussy bitch Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I had a brand new zxr400, serviced from day one by the dealer. Always serviced on time and oil changed by them at each interval.

After 15k miles every rocker was worn and the cams twisted.

Why? Cause the silly bastids had been putting in the wrong grade of oil from day one, another dealer (based next to the racetrack so had plenty of 400 experience) told me they should only be run with synthetic race oil.

Thank God for the 2 year warranty Rolling Eyes

They actually said the cams were *twisted* & you actually believed them? Rolling Eyes
Perhaps you could enlighten us on how running the wrong old somehow twists a piece of steel bar about 20mm in diameter?

Most bikes specify fairly low spec oils. In car terms the grades are obsolete, hence only applicable for really cheap oils.

All the best
