Hi, I'm under 21 so obviously restricted to 33BHP once ive passed my test but i'm confused about which test i take?

On the DSA site it has either standard bike or big bike. Is the big bike test just for over 21s that want to get straight onto a 33bhp+ ??

Cheers, Sam

under 21 u can take the standard bike test on a 125cc bike and be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years. if u turn 21 in those 2 years u can take the test so u can ride anything. and yes u need to be 21 to take the unrestricted bike test (direct aceess) so take the standard bike test. im over 21 myself but thats the test im taking so i can do it on my own 125 Smile

There are 3 types of test:

A: You do it on a 125cc, but are then restricted to a 125cc and 14.6bhp (so just like a CBT) but you can remove your L-plates, carry pillions and go on the motorway. (YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS TEST!)

A2: Same as above but you can ride any bike you like as long as it is restricted or puts out under 33bhp (25kw). This is the one you want to do.

DAS: Only available to over 21s but once you pass you can ride whatever you want without any restrictions.

To answer your question simply rather than adding confusion:

Yes, the 'big bike' test as the DSA call it on the booking site, is for riders over 21 taking the DAS unrestricted test.

The 'standard bike' as DSA call it on the booking site, is the one you want for <33BHP aka A2 or restricted.

If you go through a riding school they will sort it all out for you. Smile
