CG125 rattling under acceleration

Hi guys.

Noticed since the off that the CG is rattling quite violently under acceleration... and it gives the frame a shake when it rattles.

What could it be?

Im thinking either rear wheel bearing or something in the exhaust is FUBAR and needs replacing.... It is at the back, and i have replaced the chain et sprockets so can't be that.

Will try and get some audio or a video but will be difficult.

Hey Dunc,
Could be a few things.

The first thing i would do is check your wheel is balanced correctly. The best way is to take it to your local tyre dealer and let them do it. They may charge a couple quid.

check your chain adjusters are equal both sides, although this would more likely cause you to drift off when riding

I assume you have dual swingarms and rear springs. Check all nuts are tight and there is no side to side play in any of the joints.

Got a good family friend thats a manager of a machonichies (sp?) so i'll ask him.

Chain adjusters are equal and tight.

I'll have a look at the nuts and see if anything is loose but i doubt it, i took it to bits the other day to check for any buckling after the off... I'll give it a bash.

Ah, missed the bit mentioning the off.
Do you get vibration at a constant speed, or only under heavy acceleration?

At low speeds I.e 20/30 but not at anything higher. Its generally normal from 40 on.

It's worse under heavy acceleration, and i've noticed if i'm going 30, and i shove it up a gear, it gets quieter but doesn't quite go away.

So might be something in the engine?

But can't be the chain or sprockets....

Easy way to check the engine is to take the bike out, and see if the vibration occurs at certain RPM, or certain speed. Change your riding style (thrash it to the red line if you normally tootle along) and see what happens. If its RPM related vibration, chances are your engine is poorly. If its speed, rear wheel or vibration are most likely.

Just been out to do exactly that.

Seems to be:

If i take it easy, it only rattles a wee bit, depending on how hard i accelerate.

If i redline it everywhere i go, it's really bad.

Maybe an engine rebuild is needed?

Might get to it this week, nothing better to do.

might be picking up an SR125 though so i'll be working on that more Thumbs Down

I'll have to see how much time i have.

Cheers for the info though, will have to rebuild and clean the engine.
