Spec me a digital camera

I prefer using film, but I'd like to get a digital camera to take on bike runs, mainly because my SLR is a) Big and bulky and b) too easily damaged. I never got particularly good results using compact film cameras.

Not really looked into them much in terms of makes and models but I know what I'm looking for in terms of spec.

Absolute minimum shutter lag. This grips my shitter, when I press the button, I want it to take the picture straight away. I like to take unposed pictures, standing there like a muppet with red lights strobing off the front kind of gives the game away.

A viewfinder. I'm not into holding the thing at arms length with the picture wobbling about in a laggy screen. In fact, I'm not really bothered about a screen at all.

Rechargeable battery. I don't want pockets full of dead AA batteries.

Removable momory card.

Compactness. My bike oilskins have a waterproof hip pocket. Needs to fit in there.

Robustness. It's going on bike runs, I'm going to drop it at some point.

Cost. If I get it rained on, I don't want to be crying in my beer. Lets say about the price of a good 170 section rear tyre. Just for fun photos, if I want top quality, high resolution pictures, I have a Zeiss SLR film camera.

Any help and tips appreciated because I'm new to this.

Any bridge camera?

Think a halfway house between an SLR and a compact.

I don't know enough about them to recommend you a good one unfortunately. However I've seen people getting very good shots of sports with bridge cameras.

I use an old Sony T3 if I'm out and about, it's certainly not as speedy as a DSLR but it's plenty quick enough for most snaps and ticks pretty much every other box, I bagged mine for 40 quid but I'd wager you could find one even cheaper on ebay now.
