I've just bought a Sony home cinema system which sounds awesome, so I thought I'd upgrade my xbox to connect via HDMI and with an optical port adaptor (Why it didn't have this as standard I don't know...)

Connected it all up, xbox games work FINE but as soon as I try to play a DVD it cuts the video and says "Secure HDCP Link not found"

It's a legit DVD on a legit XBOX 360 on a legit Samsung 40" 1080P LCD that I only bought last year for £600...

from googling it seems its the TV's fault and not fixable???

Anyone had this before , any ideas? Really pissed off at buying a TV/xbox that doesn't do what I piad extra £££ for it to fukin do!

I don't see how it's the 360's fault? Seem to remember seeing a few threads about this problem on the AVforums, it sounds like a handshake problem with the Samsung DRM chips as there were a few PS3 owners having similar troubles (although not as many).

Still sucks though Sad

OK it prob is my TV here, but the xbox annoys me as I have to buy random things to get other things to work when it should have the thing built in in the first place Laughing

£10 and a 2 week wait just to plug my sound system into it... should have a built-in optical port as standard!

But yeah slightly harsh on Xbox, but my TV is HDCP compliant so i dont see why the tv's not working either Evil or Very Mad

It's how M$ make the 360 cheap as chips. Everyone is like "Oh it's so cheap, buy an Xbox!" but I know to get it working how I wanted I had to spend more than I would had I just bought a PS3. Confused

It worked for them though! The amount of parents at xmas time just look at the big price on the poster. Little do they realise that on boxing day they are back in the shop having to buy a shed load of extras!!

Thing is, I genuinely like how the xbox works and online gaming, despite having to pay extra for it, plus almost all my mates are on xbox and not the PS3... but I'm really tempted to get a PS3 at some point, sounds like a lot less hassle and get a bluray player as well.... although I hear the PS3 isn't as good a bluray player as a stand alone bluray player?

Still haven't fixed my HDMI issue, going to try a different HDMI lead for what difference that makes, doubt it'll do anything but worth trying I guess.

Out of curiosity, how much have the PS3 users spent once controllers/HD upgrades etc are taken into account? (Take the wii for example, sounds cheap until you factor in all the extras needed, is probably more than the other consoles in actual fact given it has many 2-4 player games).

I paid £280 for a 360 "Elite", came with the HDMI/Optical breakout, headset, 120gb hard drive etc and also bundled with 3 games and a second controller (decent games, not old catalogue dross). Paid another £28 on top for a wireless bridge although I've since ran a cable downstairs in the midst of a massive redecoration as streaming high def stuff was proving a nightmare over wifi.

I don't want a fan boi pissing contest in Sparks!'s thread, just genuinely curious as to the real cost of ownership.

I paid £80 for my Xbox with harddrive, wireless pad, headset all HD cables, and I get my games for next to nothing, made a fair whack out of flashing boxes, fixing red rings and selling games too. I use a set of £15 speakers that Shaggy sold me and my setup probably rivals most of them out there really, except the uber nerds wasting hundreds on sound systems that are to be honest, fairly pointless!

So I would say my costs ownership is in the plus figures for me, so thank you Xbox for being so easy to exploit!

And screw PS3, for the marginal graphics increase I would rather save my money, and play something alot more enjoyable with a wider range of games available!

There we go, plenty of bait there!
