I just got quoted £1600 TPO on a '04 zx12r Neutral And the same to within a few quid on a zx10r.
They quoted me £2600 on a zx6r though?! Confused OMG I want a zx12r. Shocked

https://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk try them. Confused

how tall are you?

the two bikes are chalk and cheese

the 12r is nimble enough but it is brutally powerful, heavier and much bigger then the 10r which is tiny, tiny, tiny

Hmmn they quoted me £566 TPFT on a 1999 R6, suprisingly reasonable for an online quote.

jordon will you be able to pick the ZX-12r up when you drop it? Laughing
i guess the difference in insurance is due to the amount of people with not much experience crashing 6r's. due to them being cheaper, hence more in the price range for new bikers than the 12r

I'm not exactly small, 6 ft2 and 16 stone. I'd probally be after a 10r really as a nimble sportsbike is what i'm after. I'd like the 12r just for the raw speed of it. Shocked
Gues I'm gonna have to go sit on each of them and see how I feel.

Very cheap for online quotes I think! Smile

6'2" and 16 stone then the 12r is the bike for you

you will dwarf the 10r

and trust me the 12r is a surprisingly nimble machine in teh twisties for something that you can blast across continents on

check out the Performance Bike stats

so far it's only beaten by the GSXR1000K5 (which is also tiny) and a endurance race prepped R1

it's also only about 6th fastest through the tightest and twistiest part of their test track

ride one - you will be surprised (but make it a B model)

If I will dwarf a 10r imagine hot it is on my zxr400! Laughing
I'm Looking at getting the bike and end of august time. Might see If I can strech into winter a little as the prices will be a little less.
What years are the B models?

Aren't you still restricted? I may do that. I'm currently paying £1,300 for my ZX6R. Neutral

Don't forget that the ZX6R has been around for years and years and so it has all the Insurance history. The ZX12R and ZX10R are relatively new models so they have very little history.

This is why it's more expensive for me to insure the new Blade than the new Gixxer Thou.

Cheers

it would be a fucking liability

don't be so ridiculous a zx12r is definitely NOT the bike to restrict, nor is a blade, zx10r or gixxer1000

get some miles in on a hack that you can fall off, do some track days, do some advanced training

I doubt if any restriction kit even exists for a zx12r and god knows what harm it would do the engine to never be ridden above tickover Rolling Eyes

I'd say do the full two years on the 400 if possible. You still learn a great deal after the first year, a lot more than you would think. Then see what bike you want next.

Remember it's road riding we're talking about, not just knee down and acting the buggery fool. Smile

I'd shit myself on a zx12. Smile Plus you want nimble you have it at its best - 400cc, and I recon 130 is enough.

Basically a ZX12 is for experienced people, the ZX10 as well. Very dangerous bikes that need a lot of restraint and skill. We are talking many years here, not 1 or 2 or 3… Karma

(*edited for clarity Smile * )

I did ten years on shitboxes

RD80
Z250 ratbike
then had an FZ600 in 1987 as first big proper bike and fell off it twice big styleee - lucky to survive the second one
had a couple of years off then started again on an NC24 VFR400
then a rat GSX600F
then spent 6 years on a zx9R
then after 13 years of near constant riding I graduated to a zx12r

that's what you do - you graduate to a zx12r - absolutely fucking lethal in inexperienced hands

just a moment's inattention at 185mph

Keep the 400 for a year or two...

I crashed my GPZ500 within a year of passing my test.. had I been on a bigger bike, I'd not be here...

learn your road-skills on the 400 and progress to the 12.

People start on 600's with no trouble. I'd happily get the zx6r but the insurance quoted was £2400! and a zx10r for £1600. It makes sense to get the 10r? Confused

Nope, and you can get a zxr6r much cheaper than that. Ste's insurance at 17 was way under a grand. You'll be 18 when you have done one year on the 400cc as well. Try some more quotes.

1 year on the 400cc is ok, but after 2 years you'll have learnt a lot more and have a better time on a bigger bike. Trust me. Smile

Plus there is a lot of difference between a zx6 and a zx10. They look all sweet and innocent but they are fiery beasts the 10s. Everyone I've heard has said so.

No way a 10 will be cheaper to insure than a 6.

i rode a CB400 (nakered bike) for about 3 months, till i totaled it... went 6 months with no bike, then hopped on my FZR600...

600's are ok, but would still recomend the 400's for some time.

my insurance is £800ish that's with 1 speeding fine, and 1 claim

A newish ZX-6R will will still be a huge shock to you and full power will easily spit you off. I'm restricted but my friend has just got an 04 ZX-6R and crashed twice becasue of accelerating a little bit too much. Second time he did it his bike is almost written off. The other person i know who also has a ZX-6R has had alot of close calls simply because he isnt experienced. The back wheel will spin quite easily.

Stick with the 400 for a while longer or get a 600 and restrict it for a while until you are used to the bike and then full power. 600 is more than enough power wise. Thumbs Up

Why do you have to go for a four cylinder sportsbike?

Why not a V twin or a triple? Something like a firestorm would be the perfect step up, they are reputed to be one of the best 'first big bikes'.

They are forgiving and yet grunty and wheelie well. Their suspension isn't all that, but with the money you save on insurance I'm sure a few mods would go far.

Its just a suggestion, but it seems to me you are aiming very high indeed after a 400.

SV1000?

Actually, I know of a nice 1999 Triumph Daytona 955i for sale, two previous owners, 13500 miles, good for the taller man, only £3200 ono! Smile
