I'm off to Silverstone on friday for the F1 free practice and wondered if anyone has any recommendations on where to watch from.

I think the grandastands are open to all on friday, am I right in thinking this?

Also, whats bike parking like?

Mercedes World in Weybridge is doing an event weekend for it with it on live and lots of stuff going on.. I was considering going along to watch it there... might be the best of both worlds... get some of the atmosphere but still being able to see all the action on the big screens! - OK, not as good as either going to Silverstone or as good as watching it in your boxers at home but might be fun??!!

If its the practise then you are free to wonder. Most of the grandstands will be closed off though.

My advise is to keep moving round.

The couple of notable places were:

1) Priory - You can see from Bridge all the way over Brooklands and Luffield. Typical place for people to head into the gravel and you can hear the cars accelrate up the start/finish straight. Thumbs Up

2) Between Copse and Becketts - If you are on the inside of the circuit you can get very close (albeit behind a fence) to the end of the pit lane. During the practise sessions alot of cars do practise starts from there so can be sat for a little while (time to get some good close-up pictures).

There are some seats on the outside of Abbey (IIRC) which are open, so if you need to setup camp for a couple of hours, its a good place to be.

Last year we watched the race from about half-way along Hanger Straight. Weather was crap but considering its normally a quiet part of the track there was plenty to see! It was also alot quieter than other areas so no queues for tea and coffee Smile
