Yesterday morning on the way to work my bike started spluttering and popping slighty with a minimal loss of power which kept coming and going. On the way back in the afternoon the bike ran great then a huge loss of power and then great again cutting out altogether 2 times at junctions.

After spending a while tracking down the problem I had noticed there was a split in the short air pipe leading from the air box to the carb. I sealed it in with silicon let it dry and then this morning took it to work again and got about 5 minutes down the road only for the problems to start again. The silicon is still well sealed over the split so I am now puzzled at what it could be?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harry

Hi
Have you tried a new spark plug first, could be fuel related but try a new sparky first. (cheapest fix first)

Thanks Mark

Yes i've tried that and its the same. Fouled the plug a white colour but not white ash like the Haynes manual shows. the valve clearances are also okay and I dont think its to do with the carb.

Could be shit in the float bowl of the carb, not sure if you can take it off without the carb being removed. Could be the shit is being sucked up and blocking jet then it may settle and not block it for a while henc eit doesnt do it all the time. Whip carb off and clean and the float bowl, maybe fit an inline fuel filter. Try that. Plug sounds fine. Check fuel is running from the tank ok and that fuel tap is not causaing blockage, dissconnect the fuel pipe and turn fuel on at tap into a container if it flows free thats one out of the way.

DeJaVu, There's another thread on the workshop talking bout this too, Check the rubber for pipe that runs from the carb to the engine for splits.
