Ok guys, so what brand of jerky do you think tastes the nicest?

Out of the ones I've tried I'm going to have to say that no branded jerky is as good as the ones I have tried for example at a nearby South African butchers, or other private non branded makers.

What I want from this thread, is to get some names of GOOD branded product I can order sealed up, as the butchers jerky does not last very long.

Jack Links/Wild West ect are cheap and sweaty, although I will still eat it, just looking for some quality without shelling out on heavily overpriced goods, as jerky isn't the cheapest of meats by weight.

Many thanks for any input.

Soul.

Beef Jerky tastes like cow's arse, probably because that's what it is.

Beef jerky, and Biltong which is also nice, not only tastes nice but is extremely high in protein, so is good for a high protein snack if you are bodybuilding. I just bought mine in a job lot on eBay, it was still expensive though, about a quid for a 30g pack, can't remember what make it was though if you manage to find a good one for fairly cheap do post it here!

https://www.britishbeefjerky.co.uk/

Best jerky I've ever tasted, and a thousand times better than the transparent plastic shite you find in the supermarkets. Pepper and Cajun Hot are my favourite flavours Thumbs Up

Order one of everything, you can't go wrong Mr. Green

I've tried a few supermarket ones but none are as good as REAL USA beef jerky. Had some from an American "superstore" when I lived in Germany, and some brough back for me from a recent trip.

Will check out this britich beef jerky Thumbs Up

I've only ever tried the cheap stuff you get in Tesco, and I bought it purely because I had seen Homer J eat it one time.

I thought it was pretty nice actually - so that's cheap garbage then?

I must try stuff from that site.

Doesn't that defeat the whole object of beef jerky?

Biltong is nice but it is expensive. I could live of biltong and pasta and peroni.

Mate at work makes his own, he's from a family of game keepers / hunters etc, you know the outdoors type, likes to go survival fishing etc

Anyway, that's the best jerky i've ever had!

That Beefjerky site is expensive, and small packets.

I've tried the packets you get in supermarkets here and it's rubbish, some taste ok but you don't get hardly any at all and it's again expensive.

Totally different story in America, bought loads while I was in Canada, Safeway sold the best stuff, big bags that would last a couple of days for about $4, peppered ones were the nicest. You can get it everywhere there though, all petrol stations and supermarkets sell it.

A mate of mine makes his own jerky, you just soak the meat in vinegar and salt, then cover it with pepper and coriander seeds, cut it into strips and hang it in a wooden box with a lightbulb in it for a few days. It's so much nicer than any supermarket stuff.

How can you say the butcher's jerky doesn't last long? The entire point of jerky is that it's preserved and it lasts for ages!

It has fat on it, fat does not dry, fat goes rancid while the rest of the meat is preserved.

Is why it doesn't last long, it's his fault for not trimming, but he does knock it out VERY reasonably.

Yeah that's it, I'm after something trimmed and sealed, and of good quality, this British Beef Jerky seems to have lots of good buzz about it I'm going to order a variety pack of 50G packs for £19.60, they do 500g of jerky for £26 which compared to 25g of sweaty Jack Links for £2 makes it shit hot, especially if its as good as others say.

Got to be tested I'm saying.

I bought some biltong off a South African butchers website. Was well priced, I bought a couple of kg in total and it kept for months - couple of bits were long sticking bits, so I could hang them in the larder.

I always make my own.

Take some decent beef / steak and lob it in the freezer for a couple of hours until semi-frozen (helps with cutting it into strips.
Slice it into strips, and marinate it overnight in worcester sauce.
Leave it in a dehydrator overnight,

Job's a goodun!
