A grand spent on it in 6 months just to keep it running and then sells it for less than half what it cost to run? Oops.

from the paperwork it was a woman owner who spent out getting all the usual bits replaced on a car that age.
Cam belt
clutch
bushes
etc
etc

even if it only lasts 6 months then it will be cheaper than leasing one.

Usually means its turning into a money pit. Got rid as there is either something big on the way out or fed up of spending money on it.

You guys are missing the point.

£400? with MOT, maybe tax and its a motor that is big enough for a familt and has cheap insurance?

You can't go wrong, even if it does breakdown in 6 months.

Had my cynical head on. Laughing I know a lot of people that do that and if they get 6-12 months from it they're happy. Could actually be the best way to run a car.

i looked in to several ways to get another car as my mondeo was going to cost hundreds to pass the next MOT.

i tried the scrappage scheme but its a bit of a con and even for a tiny citroen c1 it would have been £195 a month !

Leasing was £500 + £99 a month so not worth it either.

This way i got a car with 3 months toad tax and 9 months mot. So even if it fails the mot in 9 months i'm quids in.
Plus i only use the car once or twice a week to go shopping and drop my son off at the my ex's sometimes.

The fact that this has had most of the major consumables replaced is a bonus.

No offence taken i kept thinking the same but i have some mechanical knowledge and went over and under Smile the main points for anything serious.

Its a gamble buying cars this way but i then when i bought my first car after moving to Reading 10 years ago it was brand new and developed an engine management fault 3 weeks later and kept trying to kill people !

Will keep the BCF updated on how i fair and if you dont hear from me then you were right and i'm in a morgue Laughing

I dunno why but I still find that shape Escort really attractive. IMO the older Focus looks more dated than that. Thinking

basic bangernomics calculation:

purchase price / 100 = months it has to last

£400 car, needs to last 4 months to break even.. you have it with 9 months mot so possible 'profit' of 5 months free motoring

nice find Smile
