Posted: 00:11 - 03 Jul 2003 Post subject: Hello! (..and help me find a NSR!) |
 |
|
Hi all,
i've just registered on the board, which i found through nsr125.com. I'm just about to buy my first bike, which is going to be a NSR125 (funnily enough!) but i'm having big problems finding one which has actually been looked after fairly well. I went to look at one today, X reg 5000 miles, £2199. Looked nice from a distance, but close up you could tell it had been left out in the rain (rust on handlebars and frame), and it looked as if the owner had literally bought it, rode it untill it needed lots of work doing, then sold it on. needed a new chain and sprocket (never been oiled), new rear tyre and soon a front, front braked ceased and possibly leaking (brake lever touched the throttle ), steering felt notchy....oh and no service history at all. Smoked like hell when we started it up, so probably knackered piston rings or something. Then to top it all off the dealer told us it was reposessed!!
Thats the 3rd NSR i've been to look at, and all 3 are in a similar sorry state. Looks like they've been owned by 17 year olds who have never even shown the chain a bit of oil So if anybody knows of a dealer with a decent NSR in the south east please let me know!
I would look at an RS125 or a cagiva mito, but they seem to be like rocking horse droppings around here

Hello welcome to the forum
There are quite a few good examples of NSR's for sale in the south so might be able to get one of them |

Thanks for the replies
Literally just as i finished typing that message i looked on the web and have just spotted a NSR125 in black/silver '52 reg with *252* miles for £2,592 at a dealer about 20 miles from where i live. Think i may have to take a drive up there before work tomorrow and have a look! Seems awfully cheap for that age/mileage? Hope its not a crash repair or something

Erm... by that I mean if you give it some and it's spluttering and coughing at high revs then it can't be warmed up properly.
I usually leave it on choke for 5mins, take it off choke, set off, go through all the gears, and say after five mins of riding then I can give it some.
Yeah, temperature gauge.. make sure that's like.. a few milimetres outta the blue zone.

If at all possible go with a bank loan (not saying it just 'cos I'm trying to sell an NSR ) Not only will you get much better interest but your bike won't be listed on the HPI register etc.
Personally I'd just spend about £1000 on an older model and if you decide you do want to stick with a 125 then maybe look at a newer one. |
