Which will be cheaper....Amsterdam or Prague??

Right then,

Since it's friday, I generally try and do as little as possible whilst getting paid for it. During this time I often plot and scheme. Today, I remembered saying to the missus the other week that we should go for a long weekend somewhere, and today I was trying to figure out where to go.

After 5 mins I decided there was nowhere in the UK that was worth bothering with, and started thinking about Europe. I narrowed it down to Prague or Amsterdam, both of which I hear really good things about.

Thing is, Amsterdam currency is the Euro, Prague the Czech crown (I think) and Im led to believe the general consensus is that anywhere using euros is fackin expensive. A mate of mine has been to amsterdam several times, now granted he smokes copious amounts of weed so some cash must get spent there, but he comes back sayin how he's blown £500 in the space of 3-4 days, claiming it's £6 a pint of beer and that food is very expensive etc.

Doing my own research though, I'm thinking he might have just fell for the tourist traps, but I can't be arsed to argue with him since he'll think he is some kind of expert on the place just because he smoked weed in a few cafes once.

So, excluding flights and hotels an all that, because I'm pretty good at sorting that stuff out, whats the cost of these places in terms of every day stuff like food/drink and how much spending cash you reckon it will be wise to take?

Went to Prague with the Missus, it was ace.

I recommend Hotel Pav on Kremancova to stay, nice restaurant called U Mateje Kotrby right next to it

I have been twice. Go to the capital Ljubljana and everything is within an hours drive/bus.

There is good night life and in the day it is completely calm and quiet. They have this awesome pastry thing, I forget what it is called but its nice.

Look up stuff there. Although it is in euros now, stuff there is so cheap. Most places don't accept 20 euro notes unless it is a meal for a few people or something else big.

Go to the lakes aswell if you do decide to go.

cheers for the alternative suggestions guys but I've pretty much got my head set on either the 'dam or prague.

Not really looking for romantic locations or owt, just somewhere different. No need to worry about seediness either, the missus has been to Bangkok with me so I'm sure there is little that would raise an eyebrow in these other places.

Still though, if anyone has been to either of these places recently, did you find them expensive, and on what basis?

Ive been to both, albeit not recently. I'd say prague would be cheaper, amsterdam is an expensive place and I wouldnt consider paying 4 euros for a beers as a good thing. I got the impression in 'dam that we were getting stung quite a lot, the paying to go for a piss thing gets really annoying. I remember we had sat in one pub for three hours when suddenly an old bird appeared with a tin wanting cash everytime you went for a piss

Stay at the Clown and Bard Hostel.

Theres a pub near by that stays open until 7am and sells weed behind the bar (which you can smoke inside).

Oh, and Amsterdam was ludicrously expensive /before/ the euro died... now? Pff.

Can be done in cambodia and vietnam quite easily so I'm told by my friend who lives over in the big 'kok, however I did not see any such places during my travels, not that I'd have partaken in such activities even if I had, but I reckon my curiousity might have gotten the better of me and I'd have at least taken a looksee.
