My girlfriend has just been out on her 1993 RG125FUN and has became a typical 2 stroke... she went out on it and it was running sweet, the motor was nice and hot and she purred beautifully.....

she came back about 20 mins later and she said she was doing about 60mph at about 8000rpm overtaking a car when suddenly all the lights and power of the bike died??????

it would not restart so she waited for 5 mins and then hit the start button, it would not start until she wound the throttle back and pushed juice into it... she came home and all i heard was a VERY rattly motor Confused

i took it round the block and it does still go but when i get to about 3rd gear it lacks a lot of power... i have ridden this bike in the past and had 95mph on it Very Happy now it struggles to even hit 50mph since she came back Crying or Very sad

we have just put it in the garage for now but would like some idea's of what it could be?????

Could be anything from cosmic rays to a partially seized gearbox... you need to do some investigation before you can get any kind of answer.

The first thing I would check if I were you is the fuses, and then I'd remove the exhaust and have a good old look up the exhaust port. It could be the powervalve servo fuse, or it could be something more serious.

the rattle sounds like it is coming from the top end, but i did say sounds like hahaha... is it worth jus whipping the barrel off and having a look at what the little end is like? also if there is any play in the con rod?

another thing what am i actually looking for when i inspect the powervalve???? what kind of wear and tear????

thanks

just rip the head and barrel off, I think the problem will be obvious if you do.

Cosmic rays. Definatly.

Sounds alot like it seized to me, lack of power then low compression...

It's worth checking the carbs and fuel system before you go whipping the head off and needing a new gasket.

right, i got round to stripping the bodywork off the RG today... when i fired her up she rattled like mad from the barrel!!!

so i whipped out the spark plug and had a look only to find a lot of black oil on it???

now i have had 2-strokes in the past and i know that the spark plugs only get full of sulphur... not wet with black oil

could this be that it has blown the piston rings???

If you take the exhaust off you should be able to have a good old look up the barrel. If you see lines or scoring on the piston, or fragments of metal then it could be a broken piston ring. Also check to see if the piston is rocking backwards and forwards in the bore. If you still can't see the problem with the exhaust off, then it is time to take the head and barrel off, because it could be the big end bearings or something like that.
