Do you use/need yours?

Reason I ask is the bikes i'm looking at, the older ones don't have a rev counter by design so was wondering if it would make a difference. The only problem I can think of is that I wouldn't know where the red line/limiter is Confused

I could do without one. It's not a big deal, I change gear by feel for the most part.

i had a CD250, didnt have rev counter.

it did have markings on the speedo though around the numbers to show what the limit for each gear was.

but you learn through experience, by sound of the engine, by the pull it has and what speed you are doing. then you know what speed the gears can go up to

failing that just keep accelerating till it wont anymore Laughing

Don't need one but used to it being there. Everybike/car I've had has had one.

The 620 has one but it's a little more £££ so i'm just trying to weigh out the pros/cons between the two to see if it's worth the extra money.

The lack of rev counter was the thing that was bothering me the most that's why I asked Wink

Can't say i've ever really used the rev counter much on any bike i've ever owned. You should be able to feel when your bike hits maximum power. Change gear right after that.
A monster produces a relatively flat power curve anyway so it shouldn't matter too much. You'll probably find yourself changing gear quite early anyway as older Dukes sound quite harsh at high revs.

You don't need one, the sound of the engine and such are enough to tell you.

My dad had a poverty spec Chevy Cavalier as his commuting car, it had no rev counter but instead had a 'Shift up' light that would glow at a certain RPM. Bugged the hell out of him!

If you move fromriding an inline-4 to a twin or V-4, you'll be constantly hitting the limiter for a while. A rev counter could be handy then but TBH if you're watching it at full chat you're not watching the road.
