I didn't know Norton were coming back as a viable concern, there's a couple of chaps in Oregon who bought the rights to Norton Motorcycles. looks like a super bike but I've heard nowt to say they're making them in quantity or shipping to the UK. But I think Norman White will build a "Norton" or restore an old one if you have one. You can also pick up a fully reburbished bike from Norvil.

Me I'd just like to see a few more back on the roads, I saw one last week on the M5 doing 80mph in the inside lane, I waved as I went past but the trailer driver wasn't interested. Mr. Green

Rotary as its whats the word very different and not the usual run of the mill tech , I know a guy who has a norton rotary , said race organisers hated it as it was hard to define the capacity.

I reckon more up to date tech would be able to resolve its problems , ie it was deadly noisy , and sticking a silencer on the end made it run far too hot, even bubbling through water made it run hot.

Very difficult to get it to run cleanly enough (when new they couldn't get them clean enough to sell in Germany despite lax emissions rules then). Due to the way it works it is very difficult to have a half decent combustion chamber shape.

Also very thirsty, which is politically incorrect these days.

All the best

Keith

Commando.
I'm not capable of technical justification.
I just like the way they looked.

All valid points, but if they are true how come the RX8 gets away with it. Surely if they used similar tech they could get it to work?

I know they had issues with packaging and heat build up on the originals, but maybe new tech and thinking could get round this.

I think they should make a 1200cc twin anyway. Cool

It is, as far as I know, a very different design especially considering how it is lubricated. Mazda is a massively bigger company, and owned by an even bigger company and they struggle to get the rotary clean enough for road use.

All the best

Hmm.

I think Norton should buy an RX8 and see how it's engine works. Laughing

You dad didn't have a go on a 500 commando. If it was a 500, it was a dominator. The only 250 twins would have been japanese, which would have given to dommie a run for its money, or a norton jubilee or a 2 stroke.

What happened to the Nemesis?

Anyone heard anything new about this bike? There's a cool-looking website with some very nice pics but no real details like price etc.

Good luck to young Dunlop at this years TT. He said him and Norton would be happy if it just finished. Bit pessimistic i thought.

I'd need pictures of each of the choices above, before I decide. Sorry, just don't know what you are talking about otherwise. Smile

I've started to think if I had 16k to waste, I'd waste on the Commando. Although it's taller than my XJR. Confused

Don't know how many of you saw this, but Norton failed to qualify for the Senior TT in the end.

Micheal Dunlop had to race his R1 instead of the Norton.
