Evenin' all,

With a touch of luck I'll have my full licence tomorrow, and subsequently will be inheriting a Hornet 600 the very same evening.

My concern is, at the moment, where I stash the NSR, I have to get it over a step into my side passage, I do this using a small plank of wood to get the front wheel over, then hoist the grab rail at the rear to lift the bottom of the fairing over it, and then grab the handlebars an push the back wheel over and jobs done.

However, with the hornet being heavier, and the fact that I have on occasion clipped the bottom of the fairing on the step when I didnt lift high enough, as well as the downpipes being quite low and also with a bellypan on it, I can't help but fear I'll end up dinging the downpipes or smashing up the bellypan every time I try and put it away, which is obviously highly undesireable as I intend to keep and look after this bike for some time.

What are some good workarounds on this problem?

I know you can all imagine what a step looks like, but just for illustration purposes, I have attached a photo of said door/step.

Cheers,

GhostRider

depending on bodging skills... you could whack together a makeshift ramp out of an old pallet or similar so you push the bike up the entire step with no headaches.

alternatively one of these off ebay - https://www.discountramps.com/automotive_car_ramps.jpg
depending on the height of the step?

Small ramp upto step and one on the other side would do the trick.

Get a rake and move all of those pretty stones until they are level with the door. If required buy another bag. If you dont want it to overhang once the front wheels inside all you need is something to elevate the front wheel slightly, some kind of thick board about 3 foot long should do it, will give you some valuable inches (so to speak).

Could I also reccommend a length of carpet to cover the threshold to stop any scraping when crossing it hamfistedly?

i very often end up barrowing concrete through doorway's and as there are many ways of getting over it the see-saw option is no doubt by far the best method(i know a wheel barrow isn't the same as a bike but it's still the best/easiest way of getting heavy stuff over steps).

the plank will need to be about 3 feet longer than the distance between the wheels, otherwise the plank will flick up before the back wheel is on it. or in the wheelbarrow world the back wheel is your shins Sick

Excellent suggestions guys, the plank of wood I've been using is short and solid i.e no flex, so I guess that's why it never occured to me to get a longer piece of wood and use the See-saw motion. Getting an extra bag of gravel is also a great idea, I'll probably use a combination of the two.

Cheers!

completely OT, but I read that as 'Discount Tramps'. Needless to say I was disappointed when I clicked the link only to find a couple of crappy bits of metal and not a cheap selection of MD 20/20 drinking gentlemen who scare small children...you may have your thread back now.
