Hi guys,

I've whipped my cylinder head off my '51 reg rs125 tonight after the bike gave up last weekend, it cut out and on attempting to re-start it all i could hear was the starter..

Anyway, on removing the head i've found metal shards inbedded in the top of the piston/face of the cylinder head, which i presume to be bits of piston ring.. my question is, how do you guys removal the barrel with the engine in situ? i've managed to get the two front nuts off by using a ring spanner and a mallet, but the rear two (carb side) are very differcult to get at.. any suggestions?

Cheers!

youve moved all the battery and coolant hose out the way, then you can get at it with a ring spanner

micht be better using a socket and extention bar, with the tank, airbox and carb removed might be able to get in there from the top

Thanks guys.. tutton i've got the two off that are on the header tank side..

I've removed the tank/airbox/carb/reedblock/exhaust/power valve etc to give me as much room as poss, but the frame is stopping me from getting any movement with the ring spanner, might have to try a rachet one.

Hi

You can use a spanner, but probably no chance that you can get a ratchet spanner on them. Thin walled ring spanner should do it.

All the best

Thanks, i was thinking space might be an issue with a rachet spanner.. i'll have a look again tomorrow with a ring spanner, i presume no one torques these up then Laughing

you get bit of tension but if your not a little girl a quick crack on each nut going, then unscrew em slowly diagonal fashion.
