So iv got my new bike, 2008 Gilera sc 125, iv bought it second hand with 107 mile on the clock, its about 10 month old now so hasnt been used much.
I just wanted to know if yous could clear up a few things for me.

the petrol tank was pritty much on the brim when i got it, the 2 stroke tank was also nearly full.

is the petrol going to be ok if its been sitting there for 10 month?

the 2 stroke oil is Black/Brown, is it any good or is that crap stuff, iv only seen blue, purple and red.

i was just asking because its very smokey!!!
being new i let it warm up for some time befor riding it but around 5k+ it smokes so much!!

hi,
if its black/brown, i'd replace it,with some tts or similar, seeing as you dont know if its any good.
wouldnt do any harm to replace all the 2 stroke in the bottle/tank.
wouldnt bother bleeding the 2t pump though, just let it run through, taking it easy till your onto the good stuff.
& id drain the petrol as well. (& keep it for cleaning stuff)
change the plug as well & you'll be sorted.
cant see the carb needing cleaned out, but it wouldnt do any harm.
cheers,
GAZ

how much do you get in a bottle, cos i might have to buy 2.

and yeh, most bikes are now 4 stroke, the 2009 gilera sc 125's are 4 stroke, 2008 are special addition, might be why, + there made in spain, they still race 2 strokes over there

RS125 was about a litre and a halfish i think including reserve tank.
There are cheaper oils about, but would you want to take the risk and then blame yourself when it goes pop..

Im happy to spend an extra couple of quid on the best stuff, but i dont think it matters much at the minute as the bikes still being run in.

do you think the dealers put naff stuff in from new to run them in and replace it at the first service or somthing?

i have no idea cos iv never owned a bike from new.

Nah, run in is important very important, even so much so sometimes people slightly over oil em by sticking a cap full in with fuel as well, if i was running in a bike id go top quality for the run in for sure, dont want any premature ring damage,

Just sounds like either the 2stroke has something mixed in it, that it perhaps shouldnt or the colourant that usually makes it a colour has gone, i personally wouldnt take the risk on a newish lump or a rebuilt lump, id get it out and go fresh for peice of mind.

yeh, i bought the bike for piece of mind to be honest, didnt want all the messing about i had with my tzr, so dont want to be doing re-builts every other week.

im at work all day tomorrow and sunday, should get £70 cash in hand on sunday, should pay for the oil nicely.

anything els i should buy while im at a bike shop?

Nothing you really need mate, just keep a regular check on the plug, oil (personally id only start by buying a 1litre bottle and buy more when needed)
check coolant, although wont be issues there being a new bike,
apart from that just remember to let it warm up to around 65ish degrees before giving it hard abuse. Before that will most likely cause some engine damage, i take it that its got a engine temp gauge or lcd?

sadly not!!

the clocks are very good tho

have how many miles till the next service when you first turn them on.

a clock (time)

mileage

trip

petrol gauge (how many miles you can do untill the petrol rurns out)

but cant see anything to do with temp.
