I clean spokes with a strip of cloth and degreaser. But rust complicates that a little. I guess it depends how bad the rust is, loose surface rust vs. terminal rusting

If it's just surface rust then use varying grades of steel wool (fine if it's mild, course if it's tough stuff etc) and some solvol autosol metal polish.

I gave mine a rub down with some wet and dry, and then painted them with hammerite silver. It helps prevent rain water and muck from making them any worse than they already are.

Hi, i use a nylon hand brush, dribble some fairy on it dip in water and away you go. Watering can to rinse. One of those kitchen sponges with a rough side, squirt of autosol and spend the next 10 mins wanking spokes. If they're heavily rusted then use smooth silver hammerite and a 1/2" brush and start saving for a respoke like me.
