Is this very common in the bike world?

Particually the newer models with the digital milometers?

I mean I'm sat here thinking about it as quite a lot of new bike are bought by the weekend warrior types doing 400 miles a year etc. so I dont suppose there is that much of it goin on?!

Or am I totally wrong?! And if it is common who does this kind of thing and how, is it the same types that do it to cars?!

I do find it amusing how some people criticise the so-called fair weather riders, and yet turn their noses up at bikes with more than 20k on the clock.

I want to buy a bike with low mileage to know it hasn't been possibly caned for 25,000+ miles... I still have the right to call the person I'm buying it off a "fair weather riding p00f" though. Very Happy

It doesn't make any difference to me 'cos I'm gonna cane after I've bought it anyway, I'm just happier knowing it hasn't been raped before I get it. Very Happy

Yeah that would stop it going up, but that wouldn't turn it back though.

Legally as long as you have some way of telling your speed there ain't a problem, so as long as the rev counter still works your fine.

Mind you selling a bike when you know that the milage shown ain't correct and you say it is... well that is illegal

I gave it a go on my old scooter to see if i could clock it back. Used a reversable drill. It took about 10 minutes to knock off 5KM which took the piss Smile

I think the professionals just use really fast drills to do it. Also with the digital odometers im sure they are programable via pc.

I've been doing a bit of reasearch on it (I get board at work) and what I've found is a handheld computer specially for the task.

Not sure of its cost but it does cars and bikes (digital mileometers) and its sooo easy to do, theres even loads of people on the net offering a "correction" service.......

As you say the dial ones are very easy to do, and it would apear the digital ones are even easier as you just hook it up to a computer and tap in the new numbers!

hmmm makes you wonder just how many original readings are out there!
