Hi guys ive been asked to create a A4 multi page brochure, im not used to doing print stuff more online images and websites.

What ive been told is

3mm bleed around the document
10mm from edge all graphics
10mm away from centre fold
300 minimum dpi

I know how to set the paper size but not the bleeds etc.

Anyone know how to do this and can knock up a template in psd file with the guides?

Open a new document @ A4 (210 x 297mm) CMYK 300dpi

Open preferences and change rulers and units to mm (might be set to that already)

Open up rulers (Ctrl R) and drag a ruler out of the ruler bars (left and top) to the exact edges of your page (turn on snapping shift + ctrl + ; makes this easier) This is your trim.

Now drag 4 more rulers 10mm from each edge (use the rulers as reference). This is the 'text' area. Don't put any elements outside of this when you design it.

Now go to image > canvas size and add 3mm to all sides with your reference point set to the centre. This is your bleed. Any elements that you want to go up to the edge off the page when printed (like colour or an image) needs to go past your 'trim' lines and up to the bleed. This is so you don't end up with white lines round the edge of your page when it gets cut at the printers.

Lastly, you'll want to save as PDF.

InDesign is shit loads easier for doing multiple pages as well.

If I'd known you had access to it, I would have just said forget photoshop completely and use InDesign!

Do your designs on paper sizes which are larger than the ones you want printed. i.e. SRA4/SRA3, and make sure you set up the crop marks for the printers.

Bleed only applies to any background image or block of colour you are using which you want printed edge to edge. Therefore you can still set up the centre lines to the original document size. Always ensure that any text or pictures you are using in your document/ brochure are set at least 5mm inside of the overall page size!!

This will ensure a decent end result.
