The carbs probably need a good clean-out and the float heights set. If you remove the carbs and turn them upside-down, then remove the bowls off the bottom you'll see the two floats. They have little springy tabs that press onto needles that shut-off the fuel when the float rises.
It could be that the needles aren't seating so remove them and give them a good clean - and clean out the bowls too. When you put them back in use a steel rule and measure how high the highest point of the floats are above the metal body of the carbs (the sealing joint for the bowls). Setting them higher (as viewed upside-down) means leaner mixture and lower means richer mixture. Bend the tabs so the floats are both the same height, if one is much lower than the other set them both to the highest one and it might cure your rich condition. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

By the way, using your email address as a username is a really silly idea. You'll get a stack of spam email for evermore now. I'd get a mod to change it if they can. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
