Hi all
Well i got my new set of gauges today but im a tad mixed up with them an example is on my old ones 0.15 and my new ones have .015 on the top and below .381 but the new one is a lot thicker than the old??
my old ones are no name or draper the new ones are supposed to be sykes pikavant.

I need 0.10 for intake and 0.12 for exhaust.

I tried a conversion table and it says .015 is cm which is 0.015mm but if thats right then one of the sets is miles out ,which do i use or have i bought the wrong ones its a 32 blade set?

I think its imperial so .004 inch are .102mm is that as close too .10 as it will go??

Ta

".015 is cm which is 0.015mm" ... .015cm is 0.15mm ... Wink

If you want 0.12mm (metric), that is 0.005" (imperial)
0.15mm = 0.006"

Anyhoo, I think I have worked out where you are getting confused ...

Basically your new gauges have both metric and imperial written on them - Imperial (inches) on the top, mm (metric) on the bottom.

So just find ones that have 0.10 and 0.12 on the bottom, forget about the top number! Wink

"I think its imperial so .004 inch are .102mm is that as close too .10 as it will go??"

And yes you can round it if you don't have exactly what you want ... bearing in mind they are set by 'feel' of the pull on the gauge ... 2 thousandths of a mm is going to be undetectable and minuscule compared to your testing errors/tollerance!! Wink

Awsome thanks
I did the .102 like a strong magnet pull and the .127 a little stronger but i could still get both in when i had tightned them up so they should be bob on.
Yes it was a tad confusing lol, but thats it for another 3.5k to be honest they prolly were the same as they left the factory but its a good learning curve.

Thanks again

Mark

Cool that it's all sorted now!! Smile

As for next time, are you sure the valve clearances need to be checked every 3.5k?? Shocked

Might be worth double checking that figure in the manual ... I'd expect it to be about 10 times that (35k) to be honest ... or are we confusing decimal places again!! Laughing

Oil and filter every 3.5k for sure, but seems unlikely you are supposed to check the valves EVEY time you do the oil ...

Fair enough, ok so its a little 125, but the valves still seem shockingly frequent. However, if that is what it says in the book, that is what it says in the book! Thumbs Up
