Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone will) but the general rule of thumb is that you're best off not doing anything to your helmet, other than wiping it with a wet cloth.

Using stickers, lacquers, paints, or polishes can degrade the shell and make it brittle/fragile.

I do make a personal concession though and use Wurth helmet and visor cleaner to remove dead flies and stubborn grime.

Helmet manufacturers do tell you not to paint your helmet but I always wonder how that affects BSB, GP etc riders and their customised helmets? I guess they only use fiberglass or kevlar helmets.

I noticed somewhere that you should use acrylic enamels which I believe is water based.

I was under the impression that you can paint your helmet aslong as using the particular paint for the helmet according to materials its made from.

As you can put sickers on your lid as long as the sticking agent doesnt harm it. Arai stickers for instance

You should not do anything to your helmet, saying that I banged a 5mm titanium ring through mine Mr. Green

gp riders helmets are custom made with that paint job already, i doubt they buy a helmet then re-paint it.

well thats what i was under the impression of lol.

haha yeah moto GP riders have them proffessionally made to suit them..
no you arent meant to paint your own helmet, unless you can get hold of the correct paint (which i doubt you can - specialist)
if you take it to a specialist they will use specialist paint that will not damage the outerlayer of the helmet.
normal paint can make it brittle which means if you fall off you may aswell be wearing a giant egg for a helmet, the outer will crack and peel away leaving you with only a small bit of padding.

personally i'd save up and get it done by a specialist, they do a better job and its safer. Thumbs Up

thats just my Penny Coin Penny Coin though.

As said earlier, nothing wrong with painting your helmet as long as you use water based paints, the same as the specialists use.

TTBOMK Bendy painted a helmet for G some time ago, I think there may have been a guide on it somewhere?
