Hi All looking for some help

i have an yamaha xj600 pre diversion 1990

the problem i have is no spark what so ever from both coils now i have bought the bike as a non runner was told by the seller that is was down to a faulty kill switch which kind of right as when you move the wire to the switch the kill switch turns itself on but if you move it again its off so can get around that bit

i dont think both coil units could be duff but maybe im wrong anything else that i could check that could be at fault? is there a pick up coil or something somewhere?

Could be anything, it could be the pick-up, the igniter electronics, the coils, the plugs, HT leads, HT caps, the safety cut out for it being in gear, the safety cut out for the side stand being down, ignition switch, kill switch or any amount of wiring between those things.

Fist thing to do is fix the kill switch wiring properly, then go over the rest of it systematically. You'll probably need a wiring diagram and a multimeter and a lot of patience.
