...new owners are saying they'll have to change the business model to respect copyright.

Apology if repost - did a search and found nothing - but my system is a tad slow

I'm stunned that anyone would buy it. The brand is 100% about downloading stuff illegally - if the new owner keeps that up then they'll be in jail too. If they try and legitimise it then everyone will sod off and 'the pirate bay' will become the least apt name for a website in history, all the while losing any value it currently has. I don't get it.

Napster was turned into a legit site/service after they were shut down for sharing mp3's, their software is packaged with loads of mp3 players now

Fair point, though Napster is a pretty flexible brand name - it doesn't actually mean anything, so there's scope to change things around a bit. Where's the sense in having a legit software downloading site called The Pirate Bay?

IMO the sale and future of the site has probably more to do with The Pirate Bay setting up a YouTube rival, The Video Bay.

Only though Beta ATM.

With YouTube actually censoring music videos depending on where your isp is based then there may be a future for a 'pirate' video download site.
