Right, here's the scooter I've bought back off my brother for £20. I sold it to him about 2 years ago for £70.

It's been bored out to 70cc from a 50. It's a crappy taiwan bike but it's pretty reliable and it's approaching 15k miles.

So I looked at it for a while and decided first off I'll begin getting the scratches out of the body (there was not a single piece of fairing without some sort of scratch/mark/crack).
So I begun removing the stickers (yes, with a knife, lol).

Then I begun sanding down the paint

I then stripped the bike to do some further sanding and get it ready to paint:

(the cat was trying to help)

Then I fibre glassed the cracks, the hole on the tail piece and any parts that needed doing, sanded again, primed and sprayed. This is how it looks at the moment:

I sprayed it Fiat Black and Rover Pageant Mid Blue.
When I get some more cash I'm going to be visitting a local materials shop for some leather and re-do the seat because the one on it is so badly torn and desecrated. I'm also going to be sanding down the fibreglass job that my dad did when the bike was stolen from me and crashed into a car...try make it blend into the bodywork because it's never been sanded down and looks horrible. Also I need to tax & MOT her and pass my CBT again. Just out of curiousity lads, I rung up about insurance, £110 a year for me & my missus...but they won't insure me until I have a CBT...do we both need one? and when I pay for my CBT, can I use my bike (without insurance...like, does the CBT cover insurance?) cheers!

The paintwork does need touching up in places, in other places you can see a tiny tiny bit where I fibreglassed...so may sand that down, depends if people I see notice it.

But that's it for now, what do you guys think? This is my first project and the first time I've sprayed anything other than car mirrors...lol Wink

You will need to take your CBT which I believe is valid for two years. This does NOT count as/cover insurance. You will need to get an insurance policy. Try www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk. Your moped will also need tax and MOT. You cannot get tax without having insurance and MOT however.

Hope this helps.

btw - Looking like a good first project! Keep us updated!

do some insurance companies give you insurance if you do not have a CBT license? because then I can ride her on car parks legally...

it's just I went on gocompare yesterday and they give me an excellent quote, rang me up, I explained my situation that I have no CBT as it's expired and they said I need a CBT.

I'd like to use my own bike on the CBT test..Sad

and thanks, I'll add pictures, updated when I can afford to. lol

No they don't.

Insurance and CBT's are COMPLETELY different things all together mate.

Do your CBT

Get Insured

Get Tax/MOT

Get riding!

lol, I know mate. I'm just saying if I get insurance I can ride on a car park legally without getting a £1,000 fine for doing so.

I was asking if paying for your CBT (you know some places let you ride your own bike to do your CBT), whether the CBT place covers insurance for you.
Surely the only way you can possibly do a CBT on your own bike is to extend your current CBT before it expires?

I'll just get her on the road, just struggling financially atm though Sad

Ask your insurance company if they will cover you to do the cbt,
I know Mce did with me but i had to ask to be covered for my cbt on my bike.

MCE are a pile of **** has so many problems with them!

Lukely the head office is only up the road so i could have a whine and a moan at them Smile

Any insurance company will insure you without a CBT, its like being insured on a car with a provisional licence.
Dont know about the insurance covering you without a valid CBT, mabe the training centre has insurance that covers you? will be a good idea to ask.

Whichever way you look at it, you won't be insured to ride to the CBT place anyway so you'd have to get the bike trailered there or something. Surely it'd just be easier to use the CBT company mopeds?

haha well atleast your man enough to fix it.

theres sort of a trend between 16 year olds that whoever has the most smashed up scooter is the coolest.
id happily go round their house with a bat and help the smashing process.. then they would be really popular. hahaha Laughing

I've worked on my car a lot in the past but when I saw my brother's bike (my old one), looking how it did, I instantly decided I had to fix it up. I'm really happy I did now because it's starting to show Very Happy Thumbs Up
