Was in a club yesterday in VIP cause it was a friend's birthday. Checked out the "menu" and on it was a 1995 White Gold Dom Perignon Jeroboam. 15,000 euros for a bottle Shocked
Looked it up and the bottle is made out of white gold, and I can't imagine how expensive the champagne you'd put in that bottle must be.
Some people just have too much money... Obviously some people buy them if not they wouldn't have them on the menu.

I hope some day I am that rich to spend that kind of money on alcohol.. Kind of makes the five quid pint I had the other week seem not so bad.

I just can't imagine how any drink could be that good to warrant the cost..

A couple of years ago at a (very rich) mates wedding reception the best man opened a bottle of brandy, the name of it escapes me but I do remember it was bottled in the 1800's. We shared this bottle between 10 or so of us with cigars.
Turns out the bottle of brandy was worth £15000 and was part of his fathers collection.

It wasnt even that nice.

If I had a brandy that old I think I'd sell it. Then again if I did have it it'd probably be cause I'm rich enough to drink it...
What do they charge you for a bottle of Absolut in a London club?
In Barcelona it's usually 200, 180 in less fancy places.

Basically it's just on the menu for some flash fucker (who probably knows little about decent wine apart from the fact that they've heard of Dom Perignon and it's very expensive) to 'impress' their guests with. My guess is that the wine is not worth anywhere near that amount though - clubs and restaurants usually whap a massive surcharge on expensive booze anyway (a quick google revealed that it was originally sold for US$17,000 so I'm not far off). I have no doubt that it is very nice champagne, but a white gold bottle? Seriously over the top. Personally I think that sort of spending is actually quite vulger.

Maybe it's because I'm Scottish, but I would never dream of paying a huge amount more for some 'quality' drink in a club - I mean £150+ for a bottle of Vodka that you can buy in Tesco for £14? That's not good!

It won't be (that is to say it won't be 500 times better than a bottle of Veuve Clicquot at £30 - it'll probably taste nicer but not 500 times nicer) - you're buying the exclusivity. French wine is especially bad for it because of the number of 'big names' in the business - and each house will only produce a certain number of bottles per year. They will lay down a certain percentage of the bottles earmarked at being aged for 5, 10, 15 etc. years and so there will only be a limited supply of each. If the year has been a perceived 'good' vintage (i.e. the conditions - in theory - have been perfect for the type of grape growing) and you can whap an extra load on for that. (a quick google says that this Dom Perignon was limited to 100 bottles too)

Different strokes for different folks though I guess, and the fact that this stuff is actually available for that price shows that some berks are actually willing to pay it!

What all these new rich people don't know is that more expensive doesn't mean better in all cases.
My friend's dad is stinkin rich, but he knows a fair bit about wine. I've gone on trips with them and sometimes he'll get a bottle of wine for 50-100 euros, but not always. I've also seen him get one for 15 because he knows that it is of good quality even though it's cheaper than other wines on that menu.
From what I've heard Cristal is pretty crap actually. Just expensive and something that new rich rappers buy...
I can't see someone like Bill Gates going and spending that much on a bottle in a club. He's more sensible than that. All these 20 year old Arab princes however... I'll take 5 and park my ferarri on the doorstep. Fuck the cops, I'll buy em!
I would rather earn 20k than be like that...

I am sitting here enjoying a half bottle of Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne, it cost £8 from either ASDA or Morrison's.
I was up at five this morning, drove to Liverpool and sprinted the Badger. My practise times were excellent (sub 15s) and the front wheel lifted in first and second under acceleration but in racing she was a little slower (15.8) on the third run things came adrift and I bent a valve as it kissed the piston.
I bet my bottle of bubbly is being enjoyed just as much as that bling fizz if not more because I have earned the right to drink it.

If you pay that for any beverage, you are being striped up because of a brand name, fact.

Only mugs pay that money.

ASDA is not a particularly highly sought brand and eight quid seemed reasonable:(

I was in a club in London the other week with some mates in London, a mate was chatting up these birds and asked "what are you drinking?" "pink champange" they repied he gave a little laugh and said "fuuuuck offffffff" they both got up and walked away. Maybe you had to be there but it was hilarious.

In my experience, i've found most champagne tastes like piss, that even includes the expensive "vintage" ones. When me and mrs mooserx got wed we had 2 bottles of krug on our table which to be fair was ok-ish, but i'd prefer a nice bottle of rioja any day of the week, as for in a pub/club anyone who pays the over inflated prices is a mug. Even the local pub to me is extortionate, example, a bottle of ernest and julio gallo merlot is £13.75 in the shop next door its 6 quid, and thats in stoke, i'm so glad i don't live darn sarf!!

The rich LOVE to seperate themselves from the rest of us, otherwise, what's the point in being rich? The clever thing is there are products which aren't that great but have clever marketing and ridiculous price tag (eg. Duchy of Cornwall food & drink) due to snobbery.

I had some Blue Mountain coffee and along with it came an explanation of how exclusive it was and how expensive it was, so fucking what?

Same with the booze, there is one objective, get pissed. Gold bottles, £300 a glass, £60 bottle of wine... is pure showing off.

Sort of sums up my outlook... Cheap champagne for everyone, not Dom for the few.

When we wanna get pissed before some party in the summers me and my mates usually drink up on a few cartons of sangria. 1 euro a litre Laughing
And it honestly tastes alrite and does the job.

Exclusivity. The more you spend the more exclusive you get, and the more your ego grows.

GoYard bags for example. Not much better quality then the price tag would have you think, but if you have that sort of mindset it will make you feel like a flipping don when the bag your carrying your razor in costs more then the common mans car.

Was staying at the Marriott hotel on Friday evening, a shot of Sambuca = £9.60 each.

Double Jack&Coke = £7.90.

Sad

I want to open a club haha.

As far as I can tell the only difference between cheap alcohol and expensive alcohol is the size of the hangover when you sober up - never sure whether that's because you can drink more cheap stuff or because it's full of chemical sh!t Confused

I'm not one to buy expensive stuff although I will buy something more expensive for a special occasion. I tend to just buy what I like, but I won't drink the supermarket label spirits even with mixers, as they seem to be particularly evil Sick

IMHO there is little more sad than seeing people flashing their cash on expensive drink to impress others - shallow and to be avoided at all costs. Normally fat men in suits attracting dumb females for a leg over - I guess they get to pay for the sex one way or another, eh? Rolling Eyes

Went to a lap dancing place in Bournemouth the other week. £4 a bottle of Budweiser, no taps, so £8 a pint. £20 for 3 minutes of clunge.
