Fuel gauge wont work (picture inside)

I bought my 2007 Yamaha Aerox yesterday . when i brought it home i filled it up with petrol . The fuel gauge is telling me it is empty i toke the the fuel sensor out and turned it up side down then the fuel gauge goes up and tells me its full . Is the fuel sensor broken. This is a picture of it

That picture looks like the fuel guage sensor is sat on a bike lift.

If your at the beginning of your biking career and just bought your first scooter, this then begs the question.

Why would you have a very expensive and well used bike lift?

You wouldn`t, i think somebodies having a giggle.
