PS3 problem!

Not mine, but my mates PS3.
It will get so far into a game, Then freeze up.

When he removes the disk, There is what looks like a hot ring on the disk.
It wipes off and leaves a faint mark like its scorched the face of the disk.

Put disk back in, It will play again for a bit. As soon as its got to do any significant loading, Like going into the next level on a game like COD, It will just freeze.

Disk out, Same problem.

Any ideas?

tell him to call sony. my 1 mate had a problem with his not ejecting the disc and they just come out and fixed it for him free. my other work mate had his totaly die and it was 3 years old and they have replaced it but charged his £50 not bad for a new ps3.
so they are willing to help.

Can he not load the game into the harddrive and play from that?
