Surprised this hasn't been posted already, fairly 'big news' on the radio yesterday.

An investigation into the policing of the G20 demonstration has criticised the tactics, as being too focussed on violence rather than allowing peaeful protest.

BBC story.

I also heard a commentator (who I think was a senior lady in the police association) state that kettling is a bad tactic to use as a preventative measure - as it was done so at the G20, and it only leads to more conflict and violence.

IMO such tactics should only be used to control an already violent situation, which was not the case at the G20. Then again, I wasn't even aware that it went on, until Tomlinson died and the whole thing came to light.

Be interesting to see how the next major demonstration is policed, both in the UK, and the upcoming G8 in Rome.

I would wager the Italian cops will be even more aggressive...

You can bet your life they will be many times more aggressive and also many times more effective. There will be batton charges, tear gas, water cannon usage etc.
The striking difference being that they wont then deny doing so.
'It wasn't us that done it, it was some protesters dressed up as gladiators'. Wink
