Finally I have got my exhaust fitted, new brake pads and have cleaned my sparks.

I get my kit on and go to ride off and it stalls. It then stalls more and more and then when I get it moving it accelerates normally and then stops accelerating when i get to about 20mph.

It is jerking forwards like something is blocked somewhere.

On one side of the engine the carburettor case is lovely and clean. On the other side it is sooty and black.

Any pointers please?

Thanks Guys,

Dave

What bike and exhaust is it?

The exhaust is probably making it run lean / rich and makes it bog down and stutter. You may need to alter the mixture screw or jet if this is the case.

Or, maybe you've mucked up the plugs when you've cleaned them? What colour where they before and now after its been running like a bag of spanners.

Are the HT leads on tight?

Hi, the bike is a Suzuki GS500E (2000).

I cant remember what colour they were but I think they might have been sooty and black powder. The HT leads are on tight and have been double checked.

I have a feeling the mixture tap has been messed with because when i put the choke on the revs go through the roof. Im not sure though :S

Thanks for that mate *saves to computer*.

Yeah i remember looking at that i think it was the sooty black powder. Which would be what id expect to see from the way she is running right now. Or not as the case stands.

I have ordered a new set of sparks, a new oil filter and have replaced the bolts on the exhaust downpipes to make sure there is definitely no air getting through there.

Im not really sure how to clean my carbs though.

Ok, I have my new spark plus now so I have swapped the old ones out.

One of the plugs is all oily and one of them looks normal.

Does that mean I have oil leaks and need to dismantle the engine?
