Yes to: I have suffered from knee injuries

My knee made a nice impression on the concrete known as the road.

I have walked with a limp ever since(although it got better and now it's back to how it was) I have the same problem as you.

I found out a few weeks back after an operation that I have ruptured my cruciate ligament and there is some other damage which is permanent.

Ask the doctor to send you for an scan on your knee(mri? can't remember the name of it)

When I had my crash in 96, my brake lever went into my right knee! It was bleeding for a week!!!! The nurse had to pack it each day. My left was full of gravel too.

Now when it cold i gets stiff and aches, sometimes I have to wear a knee suport, and it clicks alot.

Cant do much though! And don't have any feeling in my knees now!

Been there - done that... Rolling Eyes

'Stepped' off me CBR6 at 140 few years ago...
Amongst the injuries, snapped me left midline cruciate ligaments.

It's not repairable so I just have to do physio excerices for rest of life and limp in cold/damp weather! Sad

Yeah I got a couplea problems with my knees they always seem to hurt/click just from changing gears or using the rear brake after a while etc.

Haven't had a crash but reckon my pain is from football injuries. Rolling Eyes

I was 16 at the time of my accident. I am 23 now and still get problems with my knees and back. My back is the worst as I tore, all of the muscles that support the base of the spine!

I couldnt walk prob for 6 months.

Had weeks of physio that didnt do anything to help it.
Laughing Ha ...excuse me while i laugh!! ...Physio has a tendency to do that! Smile

TGE:....
If you've taken a bad blow to your knee after a crash, it is very usual that you will get a lot of pain and swelling directly after the incident, for the first few days.

Hopefully this will die down, however, cartilage injuries or ligament injuries do create a bit of extra pain, swelling and disability over a longer term. Although, and decent sort of physio should have initially assessed you for cartilage/ligament damage, (and to be honest, a physio can actually assess these problems a lot better than the doctors can). Obviously its not as good as an MRI, but its a fairly good indication of something going on.

However, if it is a while ago that you first received your initial physio treatment, things may have changed, so it may be advisable to ask her to check if there is any ligament/meniscus damage currently, as things could have deteriorated after she first checked.

You comments about you pins and needles(p+n) is a little more concerning. Did you injure back in the accident at all?
However, if you leg has taken a big blow, believe it or not, your nerves are actually the slowest thing to heal, so if you have bruised it initially, they can take up to 6 months to heal.
Even if there is other damage in you leg, nerve can get tight and a response to the injury, and hence with any sort of strain p+n are more likely to occur.
However if the p+n are getting worse, i would see this as a little more concerning.

The clucking you describe in your leg when you tense your muscles is somewhat more suggestive of knee cap damage, or bad tracking and gliding. This could be due to the initial trauma, or possibly a secondary result of the initial lower leg damage (which required the plaster). Although after 9 months of not having 'normal' use of your leg, some muscles tend to switch off as they are not needed so much, hence this imbalance if known to have a secondary clunking over the joints.

From what you say, there are may possible causes of your complains. However, your physio has the power to contact your GP if *she* is worried about you, and is concerned that things are not all as they seem.
A letter coming from her, if far far more effective for action, that you simply going back an complaining to your GP.

SO... tips:
...physios are taught to look out for the following complaints that something more sinister may be occurring, so if they hear of the following, they should take note.
1. Its getting *much* much worse, despite cooperating with physio
2. It is affecting you daily life, and how you plan/ do things
3. You are beginning to take time off work with your 'injurys'
4. The pain often stops you sleeping at night...or even more sinister...actually wakes you up at night.
5. ummm.. i think pins and needles is also a flag sign, but only if it makes you hazardous...falling over/tripping up and what not.

Obviously your shouldn't go into physio complaining of all these at once, but if you just drop in a few of these comments, she *should* sit up and listen to you....and hence you are more likely to convince her to write a letter to your GP, expressing hers and your concerns.
Its basically all wangling and playing with 'the system'. The NHS 'can' get things done very easily if they want to. Although they are mostly selective about what they think 'priority'. Hence things can be overlooked.

Even if nothing is seriously wrong, peace of mind is a wonderful healing tool. Wink Hope this helps.

Everyone else....Sorry for ranting! Razz

Wink

you cna actually see my knee sticks out more than it should if you compare it to my normal knee, i can't kneel down on my knee cos it pushes against the bone and feels bruised, had that for years now, but recent crash made it feel worse, although it's back to *normal* now
