What is the point of calling it a 'race' if the result gets decided off the track?
I always thought bike racing was mad for banning radios, but i can see that it puts more emphasis on the drivers decisions and stops the result from being manipulated.

then the fucker can overtake me...... if he can!

i used to watch F1 regularly and stopped in 99-2000 year because of this kind of bullshit. add that to the safty restrictions they brought out around the time and the race was won or lost in the pits not on the race track.

it was getting to the point where i wished they would wheel a ford fiesta into the pits and the fastest crew to change the tires and refuel it won...... hardly any racing was done as no fucker could overtake

only started watching it this year again as someone told me its getting back to the way it was....... after todays bollocks it really looks like it!

Did senna die there .. ?? Question Question

the old course was far superior and they changed it to suit ticket sales. they rebuilt the whole of the arena section to accomodate more fans and shortened the course so the fans could see more of the actual racing.

senna died in san marino

Senna died at Imola, it was the San Marino grand prix, but it wasn't actually in that country. Just like the nurbergring used to be the Luxemburg grand prix.

The old track was dropped years ago as it was too long to marshall, not great for spectators, and was basically just a who had the best engine & reliability race. New track is much better, but they do need to find some way to assist overtaking.

The old track had 3 chicanes, all of which had a single line through. So you could be slightly faster, but just as you'd start to catch them up it was hard on the brakes, single file.

Ferrari has been summoned to appear before the race stewards following the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

The call from the stewards has come after the controversial radio call that was made by the team that saw Felipe Massa slow to allow Fernando Alonso to take the lead.

Massa had led the race from the start before the call came from engineer Rob Smedley informing him that 'Fernando is faster than you' before the Brazilian was asked to confirm that he 'understood that message'.

Massa then slowed on the following lap to allow Alonso through into the lead, with Smedley then apologising to his driver.

Team orders are banned in the sport following a number of controversial incidents in the past.

More to follow...

What surprised me was how stupid Ferrari were about it. They could've quite easily agreed on a 'fuel map' to go to in these situations, or something similarly meaningless to outsiders. Instead we had the completely blatant 'Eyebrows is faster, DO YOU UNDERSTAND?' message. Given that all the teams have entire offices full of geniuses planning out race strategies, you'd have thought this would have come up at some point.

It's pretty standard to give drivers a target lap time, either to make a pit window, or nurse a problem. They could have just made up a problem such as fuel consumption and given him a target lap time of a few seconds slower than Alonso. I hope they take the win off alonso and give it back to massa.

It pisses me off that he is always calling Hamilton a cheat. Yes, Hamilton does bend to rules but he gets punished for it every time. Alonso has had a free win and deserves to get screwed.

The 100k fine is just off the FIA / stewards for bringing the sport into disrepute. Ferrari have not appealed against it.

The matter is not going before the world motorsports council, who are the ones who excluded Mclaren a few years back.

Didn't see it, partly because of fatigue over this kind of nonsense. A year ago they managed to make it a little more exciting with better camera angles and a bit of actual racing, but it didn't take long to lose that.

The footage from the 80s races that was on TG earlier (though maybe a bit heavy on the bum kissing) was far more interesting, memories of sitting watching that as a kid and there was always something going on. Well, except when Senna did a Schumi and pwned the entire field in tediously predictable fashion - but even then, he was usually having to fight to keep that lead, and it wasn't guaranteed that the car wouldn't flip out at some point and send you spinning off.

Went to the German bike GP at Hockenhiem in 1991. Lots of walking needed (we were at the Ost Curve) but not bad. Although I suspect the thousands camped out in the woods were more recovering from hang overs on the morning of the race (especially the pissed up pair on some custom style V twin, riding round with no exhaust on the bike, just blue flames straight from the cylinder heads).

All the best

It was well known for overtaking and being an engine killer, the latter also a reason it was altered.
Cars always slipstreamed at the old hockenheim and were a joy to watch doing well over 220MPH.
Actually just before it was altered they were sometimes nearing 235 in practice.

If you think some of the F1 rules are stupid, check this out:

Apparently, having the audacity to not let people drive straight past you is illegal. Shocked

Eh? Eh?

"If you're on the inside of a corner and somone's trying to pass [on the outside] it's blocking."

What??

So you'd just drive up the outside of everyone then (and they should move out of the way)! What utter bollocks...

Nah, Alonso won it.

Massa deserved it, but to be fair alonso IS quicker and if overtaking were possible in F1 he would have won. It's just shit for Massa, and makes a mockery of all ferrari's claims that everyone else has been cheating, when as soon as they get a decent car they return to race rigging Confused

Formula 1, is a team game like football, not an individual game like the 100m.

In football, if one person has the ball but his team mate is better placed to score, he will pass it.

In the same way, for Ferrari, points for Alonso are better for the team than points for Massa. They want to win the championship.

In bicycle racing, teams will shield their star cyclist from the wind, and then pull back to let him as he is the best of them so has the best chance of winning.
