Quote:
Scotland Yard today suspended the officer captured on video hitting and pushing a man who died at the G20 protest in London, the Guardian has learned.

The decision by police chiefs comes nearly 48 hours after they were alerted by the Guardian to the video of the officer in riot gear striking Ian Tomlinson with a baton and then pushing him to the ground. Minutes later Tomlinson, a 47-year-old newspaper seller, died from what a postmortem concluded was a heart attack

Thursday 9 April 2009

Quote:
Police told Ian Tomlinson's widow that someone posing as a officer may have been responsible for shoving him before he died during the G20 clashes, campaigners said last night.

They claimed that a City of London officer told Julia Tomlinson he could not rule out the 47-year-old had clashed with a protester dressed in police uniform

Some people will believe anything no matter what evidence, or lack of it, is put before them.

I did note that the post mortem had shown that Tomlinson had a suspected dog bite on the rear of his calf. Could this show that Tomlinson had already had dealings with the police and may give some light on his apparent deliberate slow walk that is clearly shown on the tape?

This will go on for years with each side putting out the version that supports their view for what ever reason needed at the time. It will be trawled out in years to come with new twists put on it and stated as facts. Others will just throw in cheap insults to try to shout down others views that do not follow their own for what ever reason.

No they won't. On account of there's clear and irrefutable proof that Tomlinson was criminally assaulted by the pigs (video footage).

Yes they will, on account that there is so much missing leading upto the assault. No one can deny that Tomlinson was pushed over, but what can be spun are the events leading upto the video footage and the motive behind Tomlinson being there.

So if they set the dogs on you first before they beat the shit out of you its OK then. A police dog wouldn't bite anyone who's innocent would they?

Do they have any evidence that he was an anarchist, anti-globalist, class war, black block or was he just one of the many Londoners who thought, "I've just finished work, I know I'll go have a good ruck with the old bill before I get the bus home."?

That is not what I have said nor insinuated, that is your spin on things to suit your views.

Like I said all sides will spin it, put doubts in others, side track people. Even down to the type of emotive language used by those wanting to force their views onto others as can be clearly shown even in the few posts already put on this thread.

You're all having a go at the police again. It seems to me that they can do no right. You're all too quick to jump up and down shouting 'filth, scum, bent, corrupt bastards'.
You never know, it may have been a protester impersonating a police officer that killed Ian Tomlinson, just as it may have been a group of police impersonators that shot and killed Jean Charles de Menezes! Wink

What did or did not happen leading up to the assault is absolutely irrelevant, as it can in no way whatsoever justify or even mitigate the blatant crime that was caught on camera. If he'd previously stabbed a pig they'd have been gassing, tazering and arresting him, not following him casually at their leisure until one decided to run forward and both hit him with a baton and viciously push him over.

All we need to do now is wait for the pig to be charged with manslaughter. Yeah...

Jeez... let me get this straight; a protestor somehow gets hold of a police uniform and then joins a line of 'genuine' coppers (none of whom notice). He then proceeds to push a fellow protester to the ground before vanishing, presumably, back to his squat (!). And I thought Jackanory finished showing when I was still a kid... Laughing

Edit: Reminds me of a Robert De Niro quote from Casino:

"That means, either he was in on it or he was too dumb to see what was going on. Either way, I cannot have a man like that working here."

Thumbs Up

If the guy had committed a crime then arrest him. One can only assume that his previous altercation (whatever that may be) had riled the police to the point of frustration. However, if he broken the law he should be arrested. You can only assume he hadn't broken the law and, last time I checked, walking slowly doesn't contradict any laws either - in the same way that pushing someone to the ground isn't SOP for being 'irritated'.

That's in your opinion, You are entitled to it but it doesn't mean it is accurate or correct, what with your very emotive writings your spin on the situation sets your stable firmly into one camp. As with the opening thread tittle, it is leading people to follow a point of view of the op. I would rather make up my own mind.

That's not an opinion, that's a legal fact.

And you obviously don't know that I originally defended the murderers of Charles DeMenezes, until the real facts were revealed. I am 100% objective. But when it's clear the pigs have commited a crime I spare them nothing.

You, on the other hand, even when confronted with irrefutable evidence, still bend over backwards to give them the benefit of even zero doubt.

I wonder what tune you'd be playing if Tomlinson had been your father.

Like I said some will use insults or emotive language to force their points of view if others dare hold one that differs. As for being 100% objective towards the Police, most would find plenty of evidence over the last 4-5 years of you being on this forum to refute that point of view you claim. I didn't read your posts regarding the first reports of the shooting, but I would hazard an educated guess it was not pro muslim and being so was the only reason it could count as pro Police.

After hearing the original reports (the lies) I was of the opinion the pigs had no choice but to shoot the guy, and said so.

Then the truth came out.

I don't "force" my opinion on anyone, I simply call it as it is. You surrender all credibility when you claim there can be any room for manoeuver in a case as open & shut as the Tomlinson affair. There is no ambiguity or room for special pleading with the footage, it categorically shows a crime being committed by a police officer against a member of the public. Period. No ifs, no buts, no nothing.

Like I said the personal attacks, the use of trying to discredit the person to justify/ force your views and opinions. I have already stated that Tomlinson can be clearly seen being knocked down, but I feel there is more to it than that. I feel there is a lot more leading up to the incident and the different camps use as much spin as they can to sway opinions.

If this is the official line, then it is ridiculous, but I'd bet the public would swallow it, or rather not make too much of a fuss.

It doesn't appear to be the official line at the moment from this quote - just a bit of hearsay.

There's the nail/head moment - read the news quote back; "campaigners said" "they claimed"

Well, that's conclusive then eh

Dam right it does if true its beyond belief-

Quote:
Could the policeman who pushed Ian Tomlinson have been an impostor - a member of the public in disguise? This novel possibility was raised by a senior police investigator looking into the death of Tomlinson, who died at the G20 protests shortly after an alleged push from a police officer. According to a report released yesterday, Tomlinson's widow was told by the investigator that they 'couldn't rule out' the possibility that the assailant was a member of the public wearing a stolen police uniform, a scenario that the family judge as 'fantastical'. By saying such things, the City of London Police 'completely failed to persuade the Tomlinson family of its impartiality'. In other words, for a police officer to deflect blame for the incident to a notional impostor undermines confidence that the investigation is unbiased.
