First, this is on the car, not the bike, but I guess vehicle wiring is vehicle wiring...

Offside dipped headlight, takes H7 bulb.
Appears to be blown but when checked (put across a battery) it's ok.

However, plug it into the socket and no light.

I have checked and there is voltage at the socket (11.8v engine off to 13.5 with engine running).
Also put brand new bulb in there, same issue, no light.
Nearside light on ok so not a switch issue (I don't think, unless you know different).
FWIW car is 2003 Volvo S40 (old shape Mk2 model).

So I'm just a bit stumped so thought I'd ask here.
Any ideas welcome
I can do further checks this evening if needed.

Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up

Hi

Try running an earth wire from the bulb. If that fixes it then it suggests it is the earth circuit that is wrong.

All the best

Did think it might be the earth to the light fitting but didn't know how to test!

So how do I test?
Connector has 2 wires. Putting meter across gives the voltage.
Where/how do I put an earth wire?

Sorry to sound ignorant but I hate vehicle electrics so any help appreciated..

Hi

If you have voltage over the connector then that suggests that the earth is in place.

If the bulb is OK (might be worth swapping them into the working nearside headlight to double check) then possibly although there is a circuit there is corrosion on a connection somewhere causing a poor circuit. Might be also worth swapping the relays between the drivers and passengers headlight circuits (they often have seperate relays and fuses).

All the best

I'm hoping it's not the relay as this link would indicate it's a circuit board mounted one inside the Central Electronics Module (CEM).

So, still looking for a solution to this one.

Ouch. Seems a strange idea putting something likely to get fried at some point on a circuit board,

All the best
