I've seen some twist and go bikes and they make sense IMO.
To me, it is quiet boring to change gears and play with the clutch. I am more interested in breeze slapping my face. I hope I am not alone.
Are there any recommendable twist&go bikes around?

No, Sitting there and twisting 1 grip is boring.

If you ride a scooter which is made to look like a proper bike there will be more than wind slapping face, For example Wrinkly old man Balls from bald men wanting to touch you, And most probably hands from people who ride Motorcycles trying to slap you out of the Thing we know as the Tard trance!

Hope this helps Thumbs Up .

Am I the only one who read that and thought "Poncy power ranger type, always has to make sure the leathers match the new bike"?

How on earth can you find gear changes "boring"?

They are hardly time consuming and 99% of the time you do them automatically without thinking.

IMO twist and go bikes are for noobz! Wink

Your a scooter rider through and through. Changing gears is one of the best parts of riding a bike. No fun on just twist and go anyone can ride one, even my granny can do that, so it's hardly taxing.

According to a couple of mates, it is totally possible to put a conversion kit on the KTM Duke 990 and make it a twist and go.

Now THAT would be fun.

Clanger is waiting for the 990 to become a little more affordable as it's very much MY type of bike, and my legs are long enough to touch the floor - just...

No it wouldn't.

Riding a bike for me anyway is fun because of the gear changes.
Deciding when in the rev range you are going to change etc. Most of the time it's normal changing gears but sometime, when you go for it, it's the best bit.

Twist and go's are what you use to learn the roads on.

Nowt wrong with gears but then each to their own.

changing gear allows you to ride the bike the way you want to depending on what you're doing - commute to work - wchichever gear you fancy, high gear as you're feeling lazy - or if you're out for a burn, keep the revs high and the bike responsive.

Twist and go is not the same as automatic, it's 1 gear so very limited as there's only so much 1 gear ratio can accomodate, automatic transmissions (smooth ones) are actually quite complex systems - why risk that on a bike a juddery one might throw you off by changing up when you're not 100% expecting it

I always used bikes for transportation. It is not my lifestyle and I am not a biker. I just ride it to go from A to B. I really dont think I look "cool" on a ducati or I look "homo" on a scooter. As long as it takes me from A to B without any congestion thats fine.
We are looking from different angles.

Automatic = Shite. Only people with disabilities should be allowed automatic vehicles. Don't understand gear changes? Get your arse to the bus stop.

Edit/ Ignore me, I've just seen my arse because I',m coming down with a cold Laughing

I'm perfectly happy to admit to liking the convenience of twist and go in the right circumstances. The right circumstances do not include those "DNA" scooters. Bloody awful things to ride.

I started out with a twist & go back in the 80s (it was all I could afford on YTS money), it was as slow as f@*k & I got laughed at everywhere I went

I wouldn't have another one if it was given to me

when I ended up dissabled I converted my BSA D1, C15, and royal enfield Bullet (before some C&%t stole it) to hand gear change so that I wouldn't have to ride an automatic again

Just spent the last 6 months with a ped.

It was the first time on a twist and go and almost caught me out a few times getting used to it,d am now worried that when I get a proper bike again I'm going to dump the clutch and give it a fist ful of right hand like on the scoot.

Hardest thing I found on the twist and go was controlling a hill start.

Its a lazy way of riding and made me quite lazy with the brakes too. It would be slam both on together as the front was piss poor and the rear made of cheese. Again doing this on big bike may cause a few brown trousers moments.

Gears are a bitch to learn sometimes and master but they make it so much fun when out on the open road.

Gears are a

My two pence isn't worth much to most people but put it forth anyway I shall.

Basically I have always had manual vehicles (cars and bikes) and I find changing gear makes you feel more involved with the machine and once you've ridden or driven for a while it becomes an almost automatic reaction.

Just buy something with a dirty big engine so you don't have to change gear much if you don't want to.

Face it, if you can do 70 in first gear you can just ignore the other ones. Very Happy

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That is the annoying sound of a trist and blow scooter!

Once you know how to use the gears you wont go back to a auto unless it was for a bet. Smile

No, you forgot the "wowing" like you used to get from a knackered record player with a slipping belt.

More of an EEEeeeEEEErrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrr____ * EeeeEERrrrrrrrrrrRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRrrr_____ eeeRRRRrrrrrrrr.

* This is the gap where they close the throttle then open it again in an attempt to make it sound like they changed gear.

All the naysayers should live with a twist&go for a second bike.

For fun they arent as good, but for commuting and general pottering about they are far better then geared bikes (anything 125cc and over at least).

They have better weather protection, are more comfortable, better fuel consumption, better luggage carrying capacity and they free up a smidgen more of my concentration to watch the road rather than on bike controls.

Try riding a T-Max and then see if you have the same opinion. They also handle surprisingly well, I'd much prefer to tour on something like a big scoot than anything else.

For me the opposite. Every time I pull the clutch on them then come to a skidding halt.

All the best
