1984 suzuki GS 125: Shot magneto

The magneto has somewhat given up, all the contact pads are worn and grooved beyond repair. I am currently looking for a replacement and stumbled upon a 1995 magneto for the suzuki GS 125, however, im not sure wether it will fit the same as my 1984 knackered one.

If anyone could shed any light on the matter it would be greatly appreciated.

Otherwise, does anyone know where i can pick up a cheap engine to straight swap.

You seem to have a lot of trouble with your gs 125.

Mine has been perfect since I got it a few months ago. Nothing wrong apart from where it has fallen/got kicked over.

Sorry I am of no help but I do believe that the 1982-84 gs 125's are basically the same and the 85-99 are the same ish but that might not be true.

I' m not entirely clear what you are after there.

A quick look at parts for the two models of GS125 available in 1984 shows it taking a five wire regulator rectifier unit.

This means that it is fitted with a three phase alternator rather than a magneto which does not have any parts that make direct physical contact with one another.

Could you give us an indication of what you mean by "contact pads"?

does your '84 have an electric start, if it does then i'd say it should be the same as all the later models. as far as i can see all the models are exactly the same apart from mine! (an '82) maybe what you could do is find a small garage (usually the best ones) and just ask them, thats what i did and it turned out that the guy had loads of experience with the Gs beforehand.

i think the bloke i bought it off knew about these problems but didnt tell me!!!

Either way, i got fed up of trying to fix it so i went out and bought a new bike (honda CBF125) which i pick up 2moz.

On a new note, how much is my GS is worth as it is now,

*frame is in immaculate condition (no rust or rot)
*wire spoke wheels have no rust on them
*new carb done approx 50 miles
*no rips in seat or scratches on tank
*half a tank of petrol still in it... lol

Just looking for a rough guide so i can put it on ebay to get rid of it.

its kick start only.

i paid £280 for it, and he sain it "only" needs a new carb than it will be a sound runner...

haha, this guy wasn't from preston by any chance was he? Same happened with me, the guy said all that was wrong was just a loose earth connection somewhere, and here we are, 3 months later of scratching our heads, wasting money on CDI units and an ignition system conversion and we're there! probably just aswell your cutting loose now its a smart idea before you end up spending loads of cash to eventually say "yeah, its fucked"
Hope all goes well mate, you should still deffo get about £300 for it i reckon.

P.s are you sure its an '84? i was told mine was an '86 untill i got a mechanic friend of mine to check out the reg and to be told it was an '82!

nah, the bloke is from chester.
its a B reg so i assume it is '84. will check the log book later. If you need any parts give me a shout.

i'm sure it probably is an '84, but also that could be the year that it was first registered not manufactured. it won't really matter tbh when your selling it as you can just tell them its an '84 and let them figure it out unless you really want to know in which case you should check the engine no. and frame no. with something, though not the manual as mine isn't listed for some reason .

Also thanks but i dont think i'll need any parts, only things that need replacing are chain and sprockets etc.
