So here is my situation, i brought a brand new bike Derbi Cross City 125cc and had it since yesterday and I m already facing trouble in getting the bike started. First few time since i had the bike it did manage to start on the first go. But last night when i was about to start the engine to head home from a friends house the engine wont start.
I followed the procedure of turning ignition on with kick stand on as the manual said and gear in Neutral position, i then pressed the ignition and gave it a bit of gas but it won't start. I was standing there for 5 minutes trying to start the engine until it started and that was that.
This morning i had to go out and the engine started fine and i drove it around, got in after riding and left it there for 2hrs and rode it to my friends house. At this point engine was fine and it was starting up in first go. So i was at my friends until i went home and the engine won't start again, after standing there for 10 mins before it got going again and rode off home.
I have checked the fuel switch is in ON position not off or reserve, and the starter leaver was in the lower position. But still having trouble with starting. It is a completely brand new bike and its not starting after 1 day of ownership? Please help me as i m totally new into bike and haven't got a clue what's going on. What amazes me is how could this happen on my a brand new bike?
Please share some light...... ____________________ Derbi Cross City 125cc |

When you leave the bike are you turning the fuel tap to off ?
Bikes each have their own foible's when it comes to starting. No two bikes are the same.
You will just have to keep trying till you find just what works for your bike.
Hot, warm or cold all make a diffrence to how they start.
It could be that it needs the throttle fully open, or even a bit of choke....
Trial and error. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Don't panic to much as iooi says it's almost certainly just finding out just how it likes being tickled to get it to work.
Only one bike I've ever owned used to start on the button, the others including the one I have now would only start with a bit of choke or some throttle. The ZXR would only start after you called it a bastard three times in a row ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

My old mate from high school had a Derbi bike, it was a crosser. He bought it brand new and within the first week he had starting problems. He basically tried what iooi put, but it didn't seem to work.
Strangely enough it ended out being the spark plug, it must have been a one of dodgy plug, because it didn't have any sign of fouling at all nevertheless he bought a new spark plug and it didn't have any problems starting from then onwards.
Just a thought mate, sounds like it fits what you've put almost perfectly.
Hope this helps mate
Best of luck and ride safe |
