Including the stag, I will have spent nigh-on £700 on someone elses wedding. The hotel are charging £90 a single room. I don't like this. I am thinking of kipping in the boot. Anyone else done it... what were the consequences, bad back etc? Or no bother? I can see me thinking its a good idea now, but at 4am with a hangover kicking in and the charlie on the way out, the prospect may not seem the same.

The boot is probably a bad idea - rather cramped. That said, I slept in the sidecar all last weekend and it wasn't too bad.

Sleeping in the drivers seat is really uncomfortable, sleeping in the passengers seat is also uncomfortable but less so. Only consequences I've had is a bad nights sleep.

Sleeping in a car is the very last resort.

As much as being drunk whilst in charge of a motor vehicle is a criminal offence you'd have to park stupidly somewhere for that to be a problem.

Oh yeah, if you're parked on some london street and there are other people sleeping in the same car then hope they don't decide to fuck off home in the small hours leaving the car door wide open.

I slept in my car at the Celtic Blue Rock festival last year. I wound the passenger seat flat, and laid out the sleeping bag and pillow... I kept the drivers side as the place to leave my muddy boots and waterproofs...

And spent both nights there... it was definitely doable, but I did ply myself with much alcohol to ensure I passed out quickly!

And that was a small Nissan Micra!!!

back seats laid flat and kip in the back with feet into the boot If you've a blanket in there then lay that from back of front seats (headrests) up onto the parcel shelf as a cover.

Spent plenty of time in the boot of a mk6/7 fiesta without any comfort issues, could probably have slept if it wasn't moving at the time

And im not exactly small either (5ft11) so you should be fine

Just make sure you don't drunkenly lock yourself in or something stupid, especialy if the weather is looking good for the next day, otherwise you could end up like those two police dogs on the news the other day

I was always told when sleeping in the car having the keys 'on your person' was do-able as an offence and apparently the police advice to avoid that risk is put them in your glovebox.

I slept in the back of my Volvo 850 estate prior to a trackday once - parked up in the car park of the hotel at Brands Hatch. Was very comfortable, but then it is massive.

When I went to le Mans a couple of years ago myself and my friend slept in my Seat Ibiza, just put the seats back as far as they would go and bob's your uncle. We were totally mashed though.

The morning was hell, since the inside of the car became very hot indeed, so I would recommend parking under a tree.

If it's just you, then go for it.

Just don't do what we did once and think 'shit it's cold, lets stick the engine on and put the heaters on for a little bit' then fall asleep. In the centre of town.

Woke up about 4 hours later so hot I thought I was going to die.

Pre-prepare some dark paper, ready to stick on the windows from the inside (using d/s sticky or blue tac). If noone sees inside the car, they won't be able to see what state you're in...jobsagudun!

I've always thought the laws about being "in charge of a vehicle" was a bit grey area.

Ive thought that if the keys were on a chain to a hard point in the vehicle so they physically were restrained from reaching the ignition then it would be hard to prosecute.

And good old Volvo "tanks", put the seats down in the back and its like a camper van!!

I've slept in the back of my Laguna a couple of times, not the best, but can almost lie straight. Think I did have a half-decent mattress both times.
Why not take a tent?

Don't even TELL ME you've never shagged in a car and then fallen asleep afterwards, woken up at, like, 5am and thought "Ouch, s/he's lying on my arm/I am freezing/have cramp in my leg/am busting for a pee".

I've slept in the back of a Sierra with just the front seats pushed forward, and a 6'6" gorilla who refused to take his boots off (grrrrr, LOL) ... and I'm not small meself it wasnt the most comfortable, but it was, erm, cozy.

My tent was under the car, we forgot about it in the heat of the moment, never got round to putting it up

I agree with G that tent, roll mat and sleeping bag is going to be more comfy than a car.

If you dont have any of those, then I guess they may be half the price of the hotel room. maybe you just need a cheaper hotel.

£90 for a few hours kip is a bit steep as chances are they'll be kicking you out middayish anyway.

Another +1 for Volvo sleeping as they're like a double bed in the back Perhaps you can borrow a bigger estate car for the night, so that at least you get a space a bit bigger than the boot. Still think you're risking it a little with the keys on your person when intoxicated, though. Can you not share someone elses room quietly sneaking in a sleeping bag/inflatable mat?
